Bush counts on Rice to 'unstick' problems
http://www.newsday.com/news/local/longisland/politics/ny-usrice164043873nov16,0,1103939.story?coll=ny-lipolitics-print

~snip~

WASHINGTON - President George W. Bush has a nickname for Condoleezza Rice, his choice as the next secretary of state: "The unsticker."

Bush put the name on Rice, his national security adviser for the past four years, because he said she helped "unstick" problems in Iraq that got caught up in the gears of government.

Assuming the Senate will confirm Rice to replace Colin Powell as secretary of State, her job will be to keep U.S. diplomacy running smoothly across the globe.

Ever since Bush walked into the Oval Office, Rice has been busy keeping Powell and Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld from butting heads; orchestrating a North Asia policy designed to get North Korea to let go its nuclear ambitions; helping the president deal with the nuclear weapons threat in Iran; and shepherding work on the Middle East peace process.

18. I can't help but wonder...
what makes this woman so hard? so mean? so evil-looking? Look at her eyes! Look at the cement hard set of her face. Did some man in college do her wrong? Has she been totally unable to find a husband so she is taking it out on the world?

Maybe she should talk to Star Jones.

I understand that her Dad is a very liberal college professor at Harvard or some ivy league university and that he was very active in the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. She has relatives who are strongly liberal, like her cousin and contemporary, Connie Rice, an attorney in California(who, btw, is just as beautiful as Condi is not).

How in the world could he have fathered someone who thinks and acts as she does? I mean, this woman is like Satan's mistreated, vengeful stepdaughter or something! It can't ALL be about money and power.

Every time I think it won't get worse - it does. You fail up with these people. Then they take the "up" part with them and leave you with the "fail" part.

She's going to get credit for...
being the first African American woman to hold such a high position in government, but it will not be taken into account that the only thing African American about Rice is her skin color.

If this opens the door for other African American women to reach the mountain peaks of government, then I would prefer someone like Maxine Waters or Cynthia McKinney. At least they speak the truth and stand up for what they believe in.

17. Am I the only person who is REALLY PISSED OFF
that she is getting this job? I mean, if my secretary did her job the way Condi did hers, she'd have been fired long ago. She is totally incompetent, CLUELESS about the security problems we have now (but so very well schooled in cold war Soviet politics), and has BLOOD on her hands from 9/11.
This just totally disgusts me. But I guess we can expect lots more like this since now they have nothing to lose and "capital to spend".:grr:

she was unqualified to be Nat'l Security Adviser and is totally unqualified to be Sec of State. I can't understand how this is happening. In the second debate the chimp made a reference to being disappointed with some of his staff, I assumed he meant "the unsticker" but apparently not.

30. BLOOD on her hands from 9/11

Only if you believe that OBL alone concieved, planned, and carried out a mission that required that every gov't agency involved not do their job. I'm sure that OBL could have arranged all that, right? OH, and he could even arrange for the passpost of an alleged highjacker to be found blocks away from the tower. Intact. Right?

If you believe all that, then you are right. She has blood on her hands.

On the other hand, if you, as do four in ten of my fellow citizens, believe in either LIHOP, or the equally possible MIHOP, then if you follow her actions immediately after 9/11 you would undoubtedly reach the conclusion that she carried out her assignment EXACTLY as instructed.

Blood on her hands? Impossible. You need a heart to pump the blood outside the skin. It's clearly self-evident that she has no heart.

Of course she's a total incompetent, that's why she's getting promoted. Bonus pack: she's a fundie, too. Did I mention vulcan, neocon, "let's blow up the middle east" wacko?

Condi, "who could of imagined they'd use airplanes as missiles."

Condi, "they never talked about Niger in our circles."

Unstuck indeed. The nation is spinning out of control.

31. rice= Americas "Eva Braun"
Condi failed the US as NSA and now bush thinks she can do this job?..........friend...lover..whatever..shes a loser and cost Americans their lives and cost taxpayers plenty of bucks.

perhaps she has a blue dress stain as well......its not normal for a NSA to be with the president every time he goes to camp david or the farm..shes always on his tail..even to Iraq...where they traveled out together .which if I'm not mistaken bush said like a married couple.

Eva Braun was the girlfriend and confidente of a fascist nazi dictator who oversaw the murder of many innocent civilians, drawing an frightening close comparison to Condi Rice.

33. anyone surprised?
Condi Rice to be SOS, boy there's a shocker. This is Bush's style. Take anyone profoundly un-qualified to do the job and them give it to them. Condi's chief qualification is of course being George's No.1 lick spittle. Wasn't Russia supposed to be her specialty? Wasn't she part of the first Bush team that missed the fall of the USSR? Wasn't she also the one who said 'Who could imagine that terrorism would hijack a plane and attack us?' Didn't she tell bold lies to the 9/11 commission? Not that Colin was any better. Maybe he was not the suck up Condi is, but he has no one to blame for the destruction of his own credibility. Can you imagine she actually thought she might get defense? Who knows? Could she have done worse than Rumsfeld? That would take some doing. Colin should have gone last year, so much for principle in the Bush admin. But after four years of being screwed by Cheney and Rumsfeld anybody can get tired.

The centralization of power now proves what I have felt all along. The neo-cons learned nothing from the failure of Iraq. And it is a failure. Democracy is not a solution, it's just another means of conveying ideas. They (the neos) are gearing up now to push harder for more invasion and occupation.
The factions fighting us in Iraq now will turn to fight each other if we ever leave. Can you forcefully impose Jeffersonian democracy on a people to whom tribal allegiances are paramount? Do you think that the administration will tolerate an Islamic state in place of Saddam? Not likely. So much for thoughtful analysis of foreign culture. Anyone with a shred of integrity will run away very fast from this tar baby. Little yellow men wearing pajamas and sandals beat the crap out of the Mighty USA in Vietnam and now equally zealous men in robes praying to Allah will do the same.

Is there a bright side to the Bush victory? Yes and it's called Iraq. Let see how Georgie and Condi and Rumsfeld and Cheney can walk away from it. Tragic that innocent American soldiers and Iraqis have to die for this horrible mistake, but Americans always have to have their mistakes shoved up their asses before they wake up.

And one more thing. The right wing 'Christians'. They are howling for blood and now George has to come across. The Republicans have managed to ignore them and exploit them for 30 years and now it's pay back time. Just one more shit storm we can thank George and Karl for. While we pour money and soldiers in to the bottomless pit of Iraq, the pew jumpers will do all they can to roll us back to the 17th century. Ain't it great? A fundamentalist by any other name.
