Dollar Slumps on Weak U.S. Jobs Data (AP)
<snip>

The dollar's recent run-up against its European rivals reversed in dramatic fashion Friday as dealers sold the currency heavily after a surprisingly weak U.S. employment report raised questions on the sustainability of the U.S. economic recovery.

The euro, Swiss franc and sterling all surged to two-week highs against the dollar on the news that U.S. companies shed 93,000 jobs in August. Economists had expected an increase of 12,000.

The euro got an extra boost from strong buying by Japanese banks against the yen, which traders say was on behalf of the Bank of Japan and Japan's Ministry of Finance. This latest bout of intervention helped support the otherwise beleaguered dollar against the yen.

And...

The heavy selling sparked by the labor market data sent the dollar crashing through several technical support levels, which certainly muddy the dollar's near-term prospects.

But where's an investor to make a buck?
Is it all the same with stock marekts?
How come the telly don't talk much about bonds?
What are bonds anyway?
Whose bonds?
And why didn't Germany invade Sweden after taking Denmark and Norway?

4. I know the answer to the last question
Because Sweden declared its neutrality and allowed the Germans free access. However, it also sheltered the Jews who were smuggled out of Denmark.

5. well, not quite..
Dear Lydia,
thanks for your info.
But surely that does not fully answer the question?
Why was it not also invaded?

Denmark and Norway were themselves neutral.

Sweden allowed German troops to cross its territory for offensive action (so was not truly neutral throughout the war).
What happened to Jews in Norway? (If there were any foreign or intgegrated?). What happened to the Jews in Finland (foreign or integrated?).

How many Jews were there in Denmark? I'm just a little surprised at the empahasis on that issue.

But to return to original questiion. What was special about Sweden that indeed it was not invaded of those countries and yet Norway and Denmark were?

How come?
