"Agents from the federal Bureau of Reclamation seized a pair of 61-year-old journals from a Redding thrift store earlier this month, concerned that the books were a terrorism risk.

The 1943 construction diaries contained information about the building of the Shasta and Keswick dams, said Jon Austin, a volunteer at the Second Time Around Thrift Store.

Reclamation spokesman Jeff McCracken said that after spotting the items on EBay, department officials decided to keep the documents out of public circulation."

1. Did they pay for them?
If they bought them, I have no problem with this. If they just stanced them up, I would bring suit in small claims court seeking that they pay for the materials and the court costs and lawyer fees.

:imho:

Even in eminent domain cases (seizure of real property for government need) fair market value must be paid.

4. I've worked on both of those dams
There really isn't much mystery about them. Just huge concrete wedges placed canyons.... There must be dozens of historical construction books in print, especially about Shasta. I've seen many...... Sounds like a waste of time to me.
