BLAIR IN WARNING TO BUSH
Daily Mirror
By Bob Roberts Deputy Political Editor

TONY Blair last night warned George Bush about the US going it alone in the world.

In a rare public attack he said America must work with Europe in the fight against terror.

In a speech in London the PM said the UN should take on a bigger role pressing for reforms in countries that "injure" their own citizens.

He added: "None of this will work unless America too reaches out. Multilateralism that works should be its aim. I have no sympathy for unilateralism for its own sake.

HE ALSO said: don't parody or lampoon US foreign policy or its politicians.....

1. Who cares what you think, Tony?
Maybe he is finally starting to get it.

A day late and a dollar short.

Jerk.

deficits, propping up our dollar, and buying our weapons and other products, what do we need the rest of the world for anyway?

He has an election to win sometime in the not-too-distant future, though, and he's already been warned to stop looking so much like America's poodle.

11. WoofWoof: "North London lads to record Xmas special to rival
BandAid":

Three young lads from Hampstead, North London, today received backing from anonymous financial sources (believed to be erstwhile members of Democrats Abroad) to record a new Xmas single based on the ever popular "She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes".

As I understand it the song is to be the same as sung by anti-Bush protestors outside Buckingham Palace in November 2003 when Junior had his State Visit:

"If you think that Blair's a poodle, sing WoofWoof.....If you think that Blair's a Poodle sing WoofWoof...." etc.

Last night Blair told the audience in the City of London's Guildhall not to mock American foreign policy or parody it's political leaders....

18. US does not pay back favours, says Chirac
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 11:55 AM by emad
Blair got nothing for support of US in Iraq, says French president

Jon Henley and Amelia Gentleman in Paris and Michael White
Tuesday November 16, 2004
The Guardian

Tony Blair and Jacques Chirac clashed openly last night over the future course of Europe's relationship with the United States as the prime minister insisted they must work together for world peace and the French president suggested it is increasingly pointless.

Mr Chirac, speaking ahead of his state visit to London, said that Britain had gained nothing in return for supporting the US over Iraq and that he did not think "it is in the nature of our American friends today" to pay back favours.

"I'm not sure, the US being what it is today, whether it is possible for anyone, even the British, to play the role of the friendly go-between," he said.

The French president's words came in direct contradiction to Tony Blair, who insisted last night that Europe needed to work with America and could help shape its policies. Mr Blair used a keynote speech in the Guildhall in London to warn Europe to stop "ridiculing American arguments and parodying their political leadership" and to concentrate on persuading Washington that "terrorism won't be beaten by toughness alone".

AND:
Ignore the intellectuals - Blair and I get on fine, insists Chirac
By John Lichfield in Paris
16 November 2004

President Jacques Chirac travels to London this week for another session of what he called yesterday "tough love" between Britain and France, in which he hopes to advance the causes of Middle East peace and European defence.

But in an interview with British correspondents in Paris yesterday, he spoke pessimistically of Tony Blair's chances of obtaining any significant concessions from the Bush administration on the management of the twin crises in the Middle East.

"I'm not sure the United States, as it is today, in its present mood, is ready to make concessions to anyone, even the British," he said. "They are not in the mood to do one favour in return for another."

In most other respects, before he spends Thursday and Friday completing the celebrations of the centenary of the Entente Cordiale, and the annual Anglo-French summit, M. Chirac was in a upbeat, even ebullient mood.

22. That speech:
Don't go it alone, Blair tells US

He wants the United Nations to take a bigger role in ensuring states protect rather than injure their citizens.

Mr Blair said co-operation should be a US aim, adding: "I have no sympathy for unilateralism for its own sake."

The speech at the Lord Mayor's Banquet focused on ensuring Europe and America work together to foster democracy and human rights.

Mr Blair again appealed for people in Europe not to ridicule American arguments and parody their leadership.
