DeLay Supporters Move to Protect His Spot
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 08:33 PM by Yo_Mama_Been_Loggin
Circling the wagons to protect a crook. Got to love those moral Republicans.

By LARRY MARGASAK, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Supporters of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay proposed a Republican rules change Tuesday that would protect the Texan's leadership position if he were to be indicted by a Texas grand jury that already charged three of his associates.

House Republicans are likely to approve Wednesday the change in the rule that would force him to step aside if indicted. The show of support would be an endorsement of DeLay's position that the Travis County investigation is a partisan attack.

Currently, rules of the House Republican Conference, which comprises all House GOP members, requires leaders to step aside from the party post if they are indicted for a felony punishable by two or more years in jail. The proposed change would eliminate the step-aside requirement for nonfederal indictments.

The Texas grand jury is investigating alleged campaign finance irregularities in 2002 state legislative races. Republican victories in those contests enabled DeLay ultimately to win support for a congressional redistricting plan that resulted in the GOP's gain of five seats in this month's elections.

1. Ahh, the moral repugs.
This is the party of personal responsibility, but apperently not the party of legal culpablity.

23. Isn't That Special!
In fact, the GOP always wants special treatment for its own. Clinton is crucified over a whore (excuse me, free-loving, deluded young woman), but Bush kisses his own concubine in public and promotes her way beyond her present level of incompetence.

It never stops: they put in the term limit on Presidents for Roosevelt, then try to remove it for Reagan. They put in the clause over indictment for House Democrats, then want to remove it for Delay. They put in the natural born clause (actually, this is a good idea still) but want to make an exception for Arnold (although Jennifer Granholm, a much better reason for removing that requirement. Canadian born but American since age 3, she is a Democrat and far more likely to be a great President than any man in either party).

The Shameless Party goes on. Wake me when it's over.

4. Once Upon A Time, The Party Of Good Government...
Once upon a time, the Elephant Party used to pride itself for being the party of good government. Of course, that was about 100 years ago, and those reformers of long ago are dead and buried for decades. Now with the antics of Tom DeLay and G*d knows what in the Executive Branch, "good government" seems to be about as passe with the GOPsters as nullification and legislation mandating outright White supremacy.

Looks like we Democrats not only are going to inherit being the party of fiscal responsibility from the GOP, but also the reputation as the party of good government, too.

7. And to think, they instituted this rule on themselves in 1993..
To show how abominable all those "Immoral Democrats" were to allow Dan Rostenkowski to continue serving after his indictment on corruption charges.

Ahh, the GOP...what's good for the(ir) goose is DEFINITELY NOT good for the (Democratic) gander!:grr:

I guess it's now gone the way of term limits, "No un-funded Federal mandates", and other nice puff pieces contained in that "contract" Newt & Co. took out on us ten years ago!:eyes:

B-)

By the way, in case you care to share your views on the sleaze, contact DeLay's DC office at 202-225-5951. At least that's the most current number I have for the old sinner.

13. Ugh!!!! This is my congressman. I promise I did all I could to
elect his opponent Richard Morrison!!!!!!!! DeLay got the least percentage of the vote he has ever received and less than all of those Republicans who ran in those other districts that were reconfigured due to DeLay's redistricting efforts. We DID try to get him out of office. Wahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it's not done by Repugnants, according to Repugnants, it's "partisan"?? How much more corrupt can they get?

even more than he is stunk up already. I suspect Delay is smart enough to not allow this to happen, however.

20. Contract by Hypocrites
If the House Republican Caucus is revising its "Contract With America" to protect Tom DeLay if indicted in Texas, he will not have to resign his leadership position. They initially made that Caucus rule to demonstrate that they were above politics of usual, corruption, and the inside game. I wonder what it means when they rescind it?
