News-Chronicle
GREEN BAY, Wis. - The soldier son of a former Green Bay Packer has died in an accident in Iraq, his father said Monday.

Mike Hunt told reporters the family was informed that his 20-year-old son, Army Pfc. Isaiah Hunt of Suamico, died in the arms of his commander after the accident Sunday night just north of Baghdad. He reportedly fell from a vehicle that collided with another one.

He was a driver with the 82nd Airborne Division out of Fort Bragg, N.C., the family said.

Mike Hunt said Isaiah had been in Iraq for four months and looked forward to coming home for Christmas. He graduated from Bay Port High School in 2002.

11. My husband was in Iraq for a year...I had to do SOMEthing...
So I got involved with Pat & Michael on ICC (the "graveyard" shift).

I felt if I were the one getting the names first, my husband's name wouldn't be one of them. Several names from his unit did appear. :(

But he & I were both lucky; his name never came up -altho there was one very close call- and he made it home safe & soundish.

It's very difficult to do; we have world-wide newsfeeds we search through, day & night after day & night, and the rest of the world is NOT like the US State Stenomedia...the rest of the world shows the blunt gut-wrenching REALITY, in words, photos and video. Then we also search for hometown obits and stories on WHO the killed soldier was; his hobbies, his family & friends. So they're not just some casualty number that most Americans don't give a flying fck about.

Michael gets hordes of hate email, how "anti-American" we are to bother counting our dead. Yes, like good patriots, we should all smile and shop and forget allllll about the dead American men, women and TEENAGERS that are dead because bush is a total fcking LIAR.

WE WILL NOT LET THEM LIE FORGOTTEN. THEY COUNT, THEIR LIVES COUNTED, and THEY WILL BE COUNTED.

We need it. Funny how lying figures so prominently in the new pseudo-patriotism. Bless the people who get the hate mail. You folks are the real patriots.

5. This is a Freeper argument
Straight from the Hannity files. Bring up the casualties and they launch into "what about the 40k who die ever year in auto accidents in this country, huh? what about that?"

It's a ridiculous, stupid, knuckle dragger argument. To save those people's lives it would take 40,000 seperate "miracles". To stop or prevent the entire situation in Iraq from ever happening it took the bad decision of ONE man.

traffic accidents.

No big deal--- Our Reprick congress coward always shows up at these funerals and cries a tear of how they died for "FREEDOM" . He is a lap dog of large neocon corporations who have given him millions of dollars for his services as Monika's stand-in.

WHAT A DISGUSTING PIG, this Cowardly reprick is, what a shill. I hope some day some family member gives a tongue lashing to him. But he has at least 3 longshoreman dock worker (apologys to the union guys) type body guards protecting his sorry ass at all times.

18. Freepers are total chickenshit COWARDS
They worship their bush-god, but do they join the military to go die for their bush-god? HELL NO!

Just like the chickenshit coward Commander in Thief they worship; they "support" wars as long as others do the fighting & dying.

You can spot a freeper by the big yellow stripe down their spineless backs. And by the fact they have absolutely no brain matter whatsoever.

used and expended, kind of like bullets

They have no respect for the men and women in uniform

And your best clue is under all that bravado, most of them are AFRAID of actually volunteering and PUTTING their assess on the line.

Left, left, left right left, I wish I could push them when they are forced to join due the draft.

Trust me, would love to push these idiots, in Bootcamp...

GIVE ME 100 Recruit!

It may actually do them some good

35. May I point out...
I'm a freeper and I signed up for the reserves shortly after September 11th. There's a very good chance I'll get mobilized in the next year.

In my young Republicans group, we generally couldn't meet on the first weekend of the month because so many of the members were reservists.

When I was at boot camp, the other recruits I talked to were overwhelmingly Republican. In fairness, this group may not have been an unbiased sample of the military. It consisted of older recruits who had signed up in the year after September 11th.

Free Republic is filled with current and former members of the military. Check out our veteran's day threads. (I noticed DU also has a lot of people with military backgrounds.)

I'm glad that DU is here to challenge me. I read it almost every day, because I want to challenge myself. I want to read stuff that I might not agree with, because I might learn something. I respect your right to have differing opinions.

But please don't get your facts wrong. Our military is filled with people on both sides of the spectrum.

P.s. You could ban me if you want, but I'm not going to be making posts trying to present the conservative point of view. Therefore, I won't interfere with the general aim of this website. I may make a factual point every now and then, but not tie it to an argument. (E.g., "that should be 3.1 billion, not million.") I may also ask a question here and there. Anyway, I hope you'll let me stick around.

Bush isn't conservative, he's a Reich Wing Nutjob. My favorite conservative is Barry Goldwater and he hated Nixon. I didn't blindly follow Kerry, but this election was a dishonest one and we are turning into a fascist theocracy. Barry Goldwater had something to say about this, just read my sig.

Our problem is with ... the religious extremists ...
who want to destroy everybody who doesn't agree with
them. I see them as betrayers of the fundamental principles
of conservatism. A lot of so-called conservatives today
don't know what the word means. (1994)

44. Here's a challenge for you.
I have no idea how many soldiers are members of any political party, religion, or moral beliefs, and don't presume to guess. Since they ARE solders, they chose to put their lives on the line for my country, so those who have served have EARNED my respect for their positions. Until reading your post, I have NEVER seen any respect shown to that kind of diversity by any freeper. The idea that anyone in the military could be a Democrat, or the idea that any Democrat could support the military, is completely ignored on that site. Why don't you post this on Free Republic and see what kind of reaction you get? Why don't you try to convince them, like you are doing to us, to respect differing opinions.

Try this link to the "Chickenhawks Hall of Shame": http://www.symbolman.com/chickenhawks.html
Be sure you stick around through the entire thing - there is a fine quote from a past Republican President at the end. Democrats tend to agree with that statement; the current President and his supporters obviously do not.

My son is an Independent who voted for John Kerry in this election. He enlisted after September 11 too. He didn't enlist in the reserves. He enlisted in the Army. He enlisted in the Infantry. There is not a "very good chance" he will be mobilized; he WILL be mobilized. He doesn't get to go to any "young" anything meetings on the weekends. Why don't you join him?

49. Two things I won't do on DU
1. Defend conservative principles. People don't come to DU to read that. The downside to that is I may not reply to posts. On DU, the liberals can have the last word. Your house, your rules.

2. Defend my personal actions. I figure if they come up (as with my last post) people can judge for themselves. If people think that signing up for the reserves after September 11th instead of active duty is cowardly, they can think that. Others might see it in a different light. But I'm not going to eat up DUs bandwidth trying to defend myself.

51. Obviously you misunderstood my purpose.
Please understand that the purpose of my comments were not to expect any defense by you, nor did I presume anything at all about your conservative principles or your personal actions. I honor your interest in challenging yourself, both by your interest in DU and in your military service to your country.

Your original post included the statement "I'm glad that DU is here to challenge me. I read it almost every day, because I want to challenge myself. I want to read stuff that I might not agree with, because I might learn something. I respect your right to have differing opinions.

I regret my words did not adequately reflect my purpose to you. I offered a challenge of thought for you to consider.

And I commend you for that (I was involved in MADD myself). Perhaps one day when we are not fighting wars of choice, I can spend more time in that effort. However at this time I am more focused on the innocent Iraqi civilians and the US troops that didn't have die. And oh yes don't forget the recuruitment tool Shrub has given to (I am not really concerned about him) Osama Bin Landen.

That's true.

The article only mensioned that he was killed in a vehicle collision which reminded me of the import issue of auto accident fatalities.

I don't think it's taken seriously enough and that infuriates me. It's an important issue to me.

#1 My profile isn't "disabled" whatever that means. It just doesn't contain any information except my avatar.

#2 The state of my profile hasn't changed at all recently. So assuming I posted, then "disbled" it is an error.

#3 What I posted wasn't an argument. It was a reminder to everyone about the issue of auto accident fatalities, an important issue to me. If you had read the article, you would have seen that it says the soldier was killed in a vehicle collision.

Any other questions?
