US Secretary of State Colin Powell, who has announced his resignation, will go to Israel and the Palestinian territories next week, a senior State Department official told AFP today.

Mr Powell is to attend an international conference on Iraq at Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt November 22-23.

He will go to Israel and the Palestinian headquarters of Ramallah on the West Bank on the sidelines of this trip, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Mr Powell's resignation was announced yesterday, but he will stay in his post until his expected successor, Condoleezza Rice, takes over, probably at the end of the year.

1. At this point, he's just wasting the taxpayers' money
Everyone knew he was irrelevant even before he was a lame duck. He needs to just hunker down in his office, watch the clock, and stop wasting jet fuel.

2. Try to talk some spine and sense into his son, too. . .
that'd be good use of his remaining time.

3. Powell is such a moran....
He didn't even have the sense to insist that his doctrine be followed. Especially since the military is his family (saddest part about his legacy is that he let his own family down).....

4. Yeah. Wish we could lose both Powells. But that would mean that there
is justice in this world.

5. Nothing will exonerate the blood on powell's hands
when he lied before the U.N. to give us a false reason to go into Iraq, makes him just as bad as *

7. oh, he just wants to screw up one more time!
Powell is the WORST and MOST INCOMPETENT Secretary of State EVER.

The only sure thing is that the idiot succeeding him will be worse.
