WP - Rumsfeld Touts U.S. 'Success'
Defense Chief Says Attacks Will Not Deter Forces in Iraq

By Dana Priest
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, September 6, 2003; Page A14

BAGHDAD, Sept. 5 -- Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld criticized the U.S. news media today for ignoring "the story of success and accomplishment" in Iraq and said the speed of improvements here "dwarfs any other experience I'm aware of," including Germany and Japan after World War II.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A32943-2003Sep5.html

If you read on, Rumsferatu says the impact of continued attacks against U.S. forces had been overstated and likened them to isolated terrorist violence "in every country in the world."

WTF? Iraq has the same amount of terrorist violence as any other country in the world?

Put this one in your '1001 Things Rummy Said That Should Have Told Us He was Completely Loco' scrapbook to show your grandkids later . . . assuming this dark period passes and we move forward again.

1. Attacks at "14 or 15 a day, down from 20 to 25 two months ago"
Do you believe that? Maybe the big attacks count the same as the "small arms" attacks in Rumsfeld's accounting.

2. The US media is "ignoring the story of success and accomplishment"?
What a crock! I wonder what Faux has to say about this.

3. Don't worry
I think things are changing quickly and this may be the Rummy Farewell Tour

The only way Bush can save his bacon is to show the public he's turning over a new leaf....he can only doing that by assurring that Rummy, and/or Wolfie and/or Pearl get to spend more time with their families.

Watch on Sunday night: Bush has to prove he's doing something positive. The old things are going darn good routine won't work anymore and he knows it.

4. The Bushies are the picture perfect example of propaganda in action
They control the media, so it's hillarious that they are now "blaming" it. Most Americans eat that stuff up, along with "reality TV."

5. Good god!
I'm glad I read 'Baghdad Burning' earlier, or I might of believed him. NOT! What I want to know is, was he really in Iraq, or did he wander off the set of a George Romero flick?
