Bush Picks Harriet Miers, Deputy Chief of Staff, as White House Counsel

2. Texas, Texas, Texas, Texas.
Even I'm getting tired of hearing it, and I love my home state of Texas. Has he not met any qualified people from any other state in the four years he's been there?

I'm really sorry, everybody. I never voted for him, even for Gov, if that helps.

6. Apparently Commander Crashcart
doesn't trust anyone from outside of the great state of Texas, even though he was born in CT, went to prep school in MA, and did his "college work" in CT and MA. In fact, his suspicious credentials remind me of his "wife's": Miss Convoluted Rice. No wonder they get along so well, they are both complete frauds. :puke:

10. Awwww, Austin.
Went to college there (not UT--tiny little Lutheran college a few blocks away) and loved it. We may still get back there one of these years.

You are asking the wrong gal about the Cowboys. The only sport I follow with any interest is figure skating. But I do know they just got themselves a sweetheart deal with the city of Arlington for a brand new stadium. I guess Jerry Jones figured Arlington was easy pickings since W had pulled the same thing with the Ballpark.

What do you call 40 men sittitng on a couch watching the SuperBowel ?
The Dallas Cowboys.

You went to Concordia !
excellent. It does my heart good to reflect on how Travis County went Blue in the local , state and National elections - with a race in question still.

We are like an oaisis in the desert. In spite of the changes, its a good place to be .

12. Several blue and purple counties in TX
Travis and El Paso counties blue...Dallas very purple <49% went blue>. Down near Tex-Mex border was very purple. Here's hoping that the blue spreads quickly before the next round of elections.

I ordered a "I'm a blue person in a red state" bumper sticker!"

5. She helped "review" his military records
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 04:22 PM by rainbow4321
Sorry the link is a cache from Google..the actual page is now missing, apparently. Looks like she played a hand in making his records look pretty. Scroll down and look for her highlighted name. And I know the original post lists her as Harrie, but her name is Harriet.

Newsweek (July 9, 2000) reported that the Bush campaign "launched a secretive research operation designed to scour all records relating to his Vietnam-era service" while preparing for Bush's 1998 re-election campaign. They paid Dallas lawyer Harriet Miers $19,000 to review the records.

9. There was a post on DU about six months ago...
...and it took a while to assemble the info, but it was a list of the "Bush Legal Team" that enabled him to steal the 2000 election and the "rewards" they got almost immediately upon his taking office.

But you hit the nail on the head..."loyal and quiet"...because if you're loyal but have a problem with keeping your mouth shut and your opinions to yourself in the Bush administration, you are nothing more than a dead man walking...

14. Good catch -- and a little Googling turns up a lot more
http://boards.historychannel.com/threaded.jsp?forum=2174&thread=100000898&start=1&msgSeq=1

"Newsweek reported on July 9, 2000 that the Bush campaign "launched a secretive research operation designed to scour all records relating to his Vietnam-era service" during preparation for Bush's 1998 re-election campaign. They paid "hard-nosed Dallas lawyer named Harriet Miers" $19,000 to review the records. According to Newsweek, one result of her work was to deflect charges that former Texas House Speaker Ben Barnes helped Bush get into the Texas Air National Guard despite low qualifications and a long waiting list. Barnes was later forced to testify under oath that he helped Bush."

http://loadedmouth.com/media/litt_settle.html

"A lawsuit that led to the disclosure of details about how young George W. Bush got into the National Guard was settled Friday by a former Texas Lottery director and the firm he blamed for his 1997 firing.

"Gtech, operator of the Texas Lottery, agreed to pay $300,000 to Lawrence Littwin. The company denied any wrongdoing and called the settlement a "business decision that was in the best interest of our company and the Texas Lottery." ...

"Gtech's ability to defend itself against the federal lawsuit took a direct hit recently when a federal judge ruled that Texas Lottery Commission Chairwoman Harriet Miers did not have to give a deposition in the case. Company lawyers had wanted to ask Miers about the reasons for Littwin's dismissal, which were never detailed by the three-member commission."

Texas Consumers Kept In Dark over Auto Loan Overcharges Because of Legislation Signed by Then-Texas Gov. Bush
http://www.commondreams.org/news2004/0406-03.htm

"Harriet Miers’ law firm represented the defendants of the litigation, which included auto dealers in Texas. At the time, she was president of Locke, Purnell, Rain & Harrell, where she worked from 1972 until 1999. Currently Miers is assistant to President Bush and his staff secretary."

I have to go make dinner, but clearly there's a lot of fun to be had here. ;)
