Scarborough accused Buchanan of sounding like Susan Sontag

After MSNBC analyst and former Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan stated that "the reason the terrorists are over here is because we are over there," host and former Congressman Joe Scarborough (R-FL) told Buchanan that he sounded like progressive intellectual and writer Susan Sontag, who died December 28. Scarborough also said Buchanan's next column should appear in The New Yorker -- where some of Sontag's work appeared, including a controversial post-9-11 commentary. As Buchanan tried to explain his position, Scarborough repeatedly interrupted and challenged him, at one point telling him, apparently joking: "o not tie me down with facts and dates."

From the January 20 edition of MSBC's Scarborough Country:

BUCHANAN: Well, listen, the reason the terrorists are over here is because we are over there.

ANDREW SULLIVAN (blogger and commentator): No.

SCARBOROUGH: No, no, no......

2. I'll never understand Sullivan
But that's beside the point. Do you remember how near the end of the campaign Scarborough seemed to be getting more and more anti-Bush? Now he's FULLY back in the morAn camp. He's nothing more than an opportunist as far as I'm concerned. No actual values of his own (other than money.)

7. Sullivan wouldn't last 30 seconds in any of the red states he loves...

More and more, Andy Sullivan reminds me of those who led their fellow Jews into the Auschwitz gas chambers, telling them they would only be deloused...

3. Do you think Scarborough has ever read anything by Sontag?
I listen to the right try to demonize anyone from the left, but what is always lacking is any discussion about their writings or comments that would lead to their demonetization by the right. I think the right takes the Boogieman approach. They have no clue to any intellectual property because they don't take the time to check their facts before they speak. It is much easier to just point the finger at someone and crate a demon. Then he will get repeated ad nauseum.

8. Scarborough's bigotry makes a long list.
Accusing Buchanan of sounding "like Susan Sontag" means that it is self-evidently BAD to be someone who pursues a life of ideas generally and an intelligent WOMAN who pursues a life of ideas particularly.

Scarborough is a misogynist pig from way back. Trying to smear Patrick Buchanan with sounding like Susan Sontag is akin to the class bully accusing one of his non-alpha male classmates of being "like a girl."

A responsible editor at MSNBC would have fired his ass.
