Joe Scarborough doesn't understand why WhatsHisFace is unpopular.
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 02:27 PM by 8_year_nightmare
Despite daily protests, I am fond of the 43rd President both personally and politically. Unlike most powerful politicians I have met or worked with, George Bush is what he is. And he really couldn't care less whether you like it or not.

Maybe that approach is what infuriates 48 percent of Americans.

But after listening for years to pundits and talking heads bemoan the fact that all politicians are blow-dried, poll tested zombies, isn't it refreshing to have a regular guy who says: "This is what I believe. If you like it, vote for me. If you don't, vote for the other guy."

(snip)

And why is it that news outlets are obsessed with protests during Republican inaugurations but give them little more than a fleeting glance when Democrats are sworn in?

Here's my answer to him:

Joe,

I hardly think that Bush's attitude is "This is what I believe. If you like it, vote for me. If you don't, vote for the other guy." That is not why he is despised. He is despised because he is viewed as such an inept human being that he can't accomplish anything substantial in life without the help of his dad & their wealthy corporate friends. Look at his life story and tell me I'm wrong.

We're angry because a life-long cheater & parasite wanted the presidency so badly that he had to steal two elections to get what he wanted, as he has had to do to achieve anything in life. We deserve better than that. And we certainly don't deserve the gross misleadership of this wannabe who manipulated himself into the White House.

It should bother our government that there is so little faith left in our election system, thanks to Bush's corruption. And the corporate media is to blame more than anyone. They're too afraid to offend their corporate sponsors to tell it like it is about this corporate-loving administration.

Thank God, more & more people are becoming aware that they can't trust what they hear on television. More than half of this country's tv viewers' interests are being ignored by the tv news sources because of their indulgence and blind eye of this corrupt administration. Continue singing the praises of this administration instead of calling it like it is; you're going to find that tv news networks will go the way of the dinosaur. We're fed up with the propaganda that is misleading the public.

And why is it that news outlets are obsessed with protests during Republican inaugurations but give them little more than a fleeting glance when Democrats are sworn in?

Just asking.

Answer: Perhaps because no president as unpopular in his own country & around the world as Bush has ever been "re"-"elected" (sorry for the grammatical faux pas, but it was necessary in this case).

Wake up, newspeople! This is your country! And you're allowing this country's sense of ethics to go down the drain by ignoring the corruption of this administration.

Sincerely,

(edited to add my "p.s."!)

p.s.: Take a look at the photos of John Kerry's campaign rallies to see the massive crowds of people who are hungry for a change. And consider the long lines at the polls despite rainy & cold weather; do you honestly think that these record numbers of people withstood those conditions to vote for an inept incumbent president?

7. As a matter of fact, I have written to him about that!
It was during the campaign when I still watched cable news & I wrote him a note about his hypocricy.

8. No, he forgot that the REpublicans did cover the protests of Clinton
They just weren't large enough to matter like the ones for Bush.

Carter had almost no protests innauguration day either... the country didn't care about him, they wanted someone cleaner for a change.

11. Clinton was loved by the world
& his approval rating was almost 20 points higher (60%) than WhatsHisFace's (49%) at second term.

10. Thanks, DemonFighterLives.
I know critical letters are probably dismissed, but I think it's important to continue pestering them. Who knows, maybe the message will stick at some point.

4. Joe Scarborough is a Repuke stooge, idiot.
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 01:38 PM by BrklynLiberal
His journalistic qualifications for the job are non-existent. Until one of his aides was found dead in his office, he was a Congressman from Florida. This was never investigated, and he quickly resigned. His reward? A job on a TV station as a talking head Repuke puppet! DUH?
If you want more information about his "illustrious" career before TV

Republican stronghold gives kid-glove treatment to local U.S. Congressman Joe Scarborough

When this story first broke in the Florida panhandle, we wondered if we were in store for some Gary Condit-style media coverage. Needless to say, this story never made national TV. The big boys of broadcast had their sights set solely on Condit and had no time to cover the unusual death of a healthy, politically active 28-year-old female aide in a U.S. Congressman's district office.

The so-called Liberal national media -- quite the opposite in this instance as in so many others -- felt it was more important to keep plucking feathers from their latest Democrat goose than to ruffle the feathers of a Republican Congressman who unexpectedly resigned just a few months after being reelected. Now an aide had been found dead in his office, but the national news media simply weren't interested.

After all was said and done, a few things became quite clear. The authorities, mainly the police who investigated the scene, gave the appearance of a cover-up by immediately stating that there were no signs of foul play. It subsequently was revealed that the dead woman had a bad wound to her forehead, which seemed to fly in the face of the initial statements by investigators. If this wasn't an example of poor police work, it most certainly was a case of bumbled media and public relations.

How could police rule out foul play until they knew the cause of the wound, before an autopsy was conducted and toxicology tests performed?

The local newspaper, the Northwest Florida Daily News, tried to get information from local authorities and claimed they were sandbagged at every turn . No one suggested that the Congressman had anything to do with the death, but the manner in which authorities handled the press shows one thing. They gave the benefit of the doubt to the popular Republican Congressman, and it is doubtful they would have done the same for any ordinary Joe.

5. Anyone who refers to Pat "electric-fence" Buchanan as a 'great friend'
is an asshat who can promptly go fuck themselves. He's either being facetious or is drinking the kool-aid.

12. Love the "electric fence" connotation...
It didn't register in my mind until I read it a second time. :)

6. Then why did Bush campaign against gays and abortions and lie about Kerry
so much?

Bush didn't TELL the voters he planned to privatize Social Security, spread his invasive foreign agenda into more parts of the world, or that he would NOT push a gay marriage amendment, or that he would appoint a prochoice Attornet General, or that he would tap a gay man to head the Republican National Committee.

Bush NEVER was honest about his intentions to his voters.

9. Good point.
Since I didn't include that in my e-mail to him, I'd love for you to send him a note. He seems to need some enlightenment:
