1. In this editorial is the answer, IMHO, of why Clark has held out...
announcing his candidacy. Things have been happening so fast, I'm sure there was last-minute editing to the book. And this is very important. His book will reach as many, or more, people than soundbites. If I were in his shoes, I would wait until the last possible minute, also.

I agree with Ignatius:"On the big issue, Clark has the right stuff. He has commanded troops in battle and he won a decisive victory in his war -- the 1999 NATO campaign in Kosovo."

snip...

"Everything I said about Iraq has turned out to be correct," the retired Army general averred in a telephone interview several days ago. He rattled off the concerns he voiced before the invasion: Iraq didn't pose an imminent threat to the United States; it wasn't directly linked to the war on terrorism; an invasion might make the terrorism problem worse; there wasn't an international coalition supporting the war; America had other ways to contain Saddam Hussein.

"This has been a root canal," Clark says of the Iraq campaign. And he warns that the worst may lie ahead: "You could have a catastrophic unwinding of this at virtually any time."

We need Clark!

2. Great hour-long interview/call-in w/Clark here
He was on WBUR-Boston's NPR calll-in show, The Connection, yesterday. Much as I have misgivings about military candidates, and some of the things he did in the Yugoslovia mess, I was damned impressed. He tells the simple truth about Shrump, doesn't dress it up or play it down or waffle it. He's superbly articulate and direct, and handles r-wing smears and gotcha! attacks deftly.

I hope he runs.

Clark interview is third from the top.

3. Sept 15 is a deadline
for reporting financial activity of Presidential campaigns.
Clark would have little or nothing to report as a candidate,
so he'll wait until Sept. 16. One more week to salvation.
