Is the Christian Coalition Actually FOR TORTURE?
A BUZZFLASH READER CONTRIBUTION
by One Citizen

... That's right, the Christian Coalition actually came out of their longstanding silence on the subject of torture! Here's what they think about the Bush Administration's nominee for Torturer Attorney... "Christian Coalition of America is calling on Christian Coalition activists to contact their United States Senators to urge them to vote to confirm Judge Alberto Gonzales as the new Attorney General ... Please keep the above issue in your prayers. Through prayer great and mighty things can be accomplished" ...

2. It's OK to torture non-Christians.
I guess they must have forgotten about the Romans and all those lions.

3. Don't be surprised.
After all, once they took power in Rome, Christians threw Pagans to the lions.

5. I don't know, but a professor I heard talk on the topic of the
real wacked out reconstructionists said that they have thriving debates about how best to kill a disobedient, evil child. Apparently the side that favored stoning the child seems to be winning the theoretical argument -- at least I hope it's still theoretical.

8. Let's see Spanish Inquisition, burning at the stake etc.
Christians in the past have had absolutely no problem putting aside that "Love thy neighbor" stuff Jesus talked about in order to promote their own sectarian vision of what Jesus really wanted but sort of failed to mention Himself while He was promoting a vision of universal love, justice and healing.

9. As long as those being tortured are not Christ
loving Christians all is fine. My guess is they know little history...they may want to read up about lions and Christians and something about dens.

10. not christians
I know that these hypocrites call themselves christians, and they do fit Cornel West's description as 'Constantinian Christians'. But I would go further in declaring that they are not christians at all, but rather Pharisees and the later group the Zealots. Self serving hypocrisy and blind nationalism. And the christian coalition has nothing to do with being a christian.
