This DLC Democrat is loved here |
|
I don't hate all of the DLC policies or elected officials although I may disagree with some of their policies. I know however that many here hate them all and hate the group as a whole. Here is someone you may not suspect of being DLC http://www.ndol.org/ndol_ci.cfm?kaid=104&subid=115&contentid=252814

I think they may have valid input from time to time.
However, their day of being at the center of party power is over. All that remains is dislodging them from it.

Love Gavin Newsom and think the whole DLC=Satan think is overblown bullshit. The DLC includes around 1/2 the party's officeholders and its insane to dismiss them all as "Bush-lite".

4. What you wrote to support them is one of my reasons for rejecting them. |
|
"DLC includes around 1/2 the party's officeholders..."
Of course it does. DLC stands for Democratic Leadership Council.
Because actual DLC membership is only for elected officals and civic leaders who have been successful in pushing policy initiatives... membership is by nonmination.
At it's heart the DLC is an organization of, for, and by what are mostly professional politicians and political operatives.
I don't reject them simply because their overuse of triangulation to co-opt conservative positions resulted in a predictable slide to more conservative positions. In the future the DLC's pursuit of anything it takes to get elected could just as likely swing them to the left.
I reject their organization on principles--it is elitist rather than democratic, and it is uncommited to traditional Democratic principles.

3. An institution is judged by the whole, not it's parts |
|
while there may be some self-respecting dems still within the confines of the institution, the institutions actions (the basis on which I form my opinion) reflect a repug-lite attitude. It has been this way since Ray-Gun.
That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it. ;-)

5. This DUer doesn't love Newsom.... |
|
He did one - ONE - thing right, but was back to his GOP lite bullshit on every other issue the very next week.
I will give him credit where due on the gay marriage issue, but Newsom doesn't fool this liberal, native San Franciscan. At the next mayoral race, I will be voting for a real Democrat, thank-you-very-much.

6. Newsom actually was not popular at DU |
|
I wasn't following that race, but it seemed that the Green candidate had more support here at DU.
As I recall, there was an issue regarding the homeless that Newsom was on the wrong side of.

most DUers supported Matt Gonzales, the true liberal candidate, as did all liberal/progressive San Franciscans.

9. It's very tempting to simplify the issue into a "DLC is evil" sort of meme |
|
Rather than say that one has disagreements over some of their ideas and issues over how much the DLC is buoyed by corporate contributions.
Now, what's easier to remember? DLC is evil? Or something more nuanced like the previous sentence here?
Does this mean I support the DLC? Hardly. I am weary of politicians who take corporate contributions, and I simply don't trust any of them who take so much contributions that it may begin to affect their judgment. Does that mean that they will not come up with a good idea once in a while? Of course not.
