It's no spin: O'Reilly admits that I was right
By Sylvester Brown Jr.
Of the Post-Dispatch

"I'LL HAVE THE beluga caviar, the risotto with fresh white truffles, the linguine with lobster, shrimp and crabmeat and a bottle of your best merlot. Thank you."

I'm practicing for my dinner at Tony's restaurant downtown with Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly. I was a guest Tuesday on his cable show, "The O'Reilly Factor." During the show, he promised to buy me dinner if he couldn't refute a charge I made on the show.

Last week, one of O'Reilly's producers called to say his boss had seen my columns in which I criticized Fox and called O'Reilly and other popular conservative commentators "blowhards."

"Bill wants to discuss journalism and go from there," the producer told me.

"Don't do it," a colleague warned. "He'll eat you alive!"

I realized the risk of entering O'Reilly's "No Spin Zone" but, the way I figure it, if you write something, you should defend it . . . locally or (gulp) nationally. So, I agreed.

3. Beautiful!
O'Reilly is one of those people I genuinely can't stand. It's great to see that one of his guests stuck to their guns, rather than backing down in the face of this jerk's intimidation tactics. O'Reilly always looks so frustrated when that happens, especially when he hadn't planned fake statistics in advance to use as retorts!

4. I'm so glad O'Lielly doesn't spin things:
"...Maybe we could discuss the daily memos sent to Fox staffers by senior VP of news John Moody, whose directives prodded them to put the president, his administration and the Iraq war in a positive light. I planned to challenge the station's claim: "We report. You decide." Seems to me they report and decide from the right.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's leave that for another night," O'Reilly said, interrupting my planned opening comments. "You said some pretty harsh things about me . . . What am I doing that's annoying you?"

bill continuously looks foolish - but somehow his "fans" don't notice... guess they like the spittle spewing, bulging veins screaming routine regardless of how foolish the content.
