Baltimore Sun: Men taken to task for their inability to, well, multitask
Great op ed column in response to Larry Summers' recent stupid remarks regarding the female brain!

Men taken to task for their inability to, well, multitask

BEING A GUY, I came to the realization long ago that I'm genetically incapable of multitasking.

If the phone rings and you say, "Get the phone," OK, I can help you there.

Somewhere in my tiny brain, a tape begins looping silently: Get the phone, get the phone, get the phone ...

But if you say, "Get the phone and check the pasta on the stove, make sure it's not burning," well, you're starting to overload the system already.

Now the tape slows perceptibly: Get the phone and ... what was the other thing?

And if you say, "Get the phone, check the pasta and see who's at the front door," that's it, we're looking at a systemwide shutdown.

much more...

1. That's so unfair
Just a minute ago I was strafing left with one hand and using the other on the scroll wheel to switch from rocket launcher to flak cannon.

<sniff> <sniff> Woops! Breakfast is burning, gotta go!

:)

2. People multitask like my PC multitasks.
Some can flip between activities; some can't.

And those that "multitask" typically do poorer on any given task than someone who doesn't.

3. If This is True,
it may because men concentrate more. Concentration is just as important as multitasking.
