Ground zero, 2004 (NYC and GOP) (Salon)
Next year's Republican Convention will convene blocks from the WTC site, just days before the anniversary of 9/11. The reception from New Yorkers, though, might not be what the White House has in mind.

1. Wow..
I just realized a good argument now.

If citizens of America's largest terrorist target city trust the Democratic nominee to protect them as Commander in Chief more than they do Bush, that's a significant endorsement.

Of course, I can see Bush sustaining very serious damage if the Democrats make a concerted effort to accuse Bush and the GOP of exploiting the deaths of 3000. Imagine a pin-drop quiet candlelit protest with tens of thousands holding signs that say "stop exploiting our pain." It'd be tons more effective than the typical chaos and violence, and it would take-off the brunt of the popular "those damn hippies" argument.

4. Thanks, tedoll78. The protests should take a couple of pages
from the protest by Vietnam Veterans Against the War in 1971
("Operation Dewey Canyon III")

There's a book in used book stores and libraries called "The New Soldier", with a forward by John Kerry. Beg, steal, or borrow this book. You'll see how these Vietnam veterans carried our their protest without violence and got their point across.

One important point: The protests in New York next year should be led by the 9/11 families themselves. And if they received any "tokens of appreciation" from */Cheney/Rumsfeld, etc., they should have a ceremony where they toss those tokens over a perimeter fence at Ground Zero.

:argh:

2. This is so blatant
If the American public can't see through this
manipulation then they deserve this bunch for another
four years!

3. I, for one, am hoping that the Pug convention in NYC is the
final nail in Chimp's re-election coffin.
