What a great editorial today.

" The distraction has worked better than the President could have hoped. Polls still show the majority of Americans believe Saddam Hussein played an instrumental roll in the Sept 11 attacks, a fallacy that Bush perpetuated with repeated references to Iraq's links to terrorism "

They also carried Deborah Mathis's scathing column in which she called Bush simple-minded.

And this paper is owned by Gannett. We just got a new editor recently. Hope he is able to stick around awhile.

Link to Deborah Mathis 's great column.

2. Hellooo Wisconsin!
Wish our paper would be so bold, however if they were they'd be boycotted around here. Let us know how many letters they get in rebuttle, "How dare you criticize our brave pesident on the 9-11 anniversary!"

4. BOTH great editorials! But I especially like Deborah Mathis' piece
Some heady stuff:

I have tried my level best to keep faith that the war on Iraq was worth it. But the president's speech on Sunday night did me in. I can't take it anymore.

<snip>

The biggest problem is that there's a dangerous man in the White House. A deceiver, moreover, a deceiver with the capacity to persuade. He can sound so earnest, he can look so innocent, seem so guileless while pulling the wool over our eyes.

<snip>

Just before all hell broke loose, Bush offered a tax cut to win over the hearts and minds of average Americans and solidify the concept that the president of the United States was always thinking, first and foremost, of them. Never mind that, at the same time, the surplus was vanishing and deficit spending was coming back with a vengeance. Never mind a numbingly expensive war was already on the ledger.

To call this irresponsible is an understatement. It was dishonest.

Of course, this is what can happen when a spoiled, simple-minded man gets to be president of the United States. Surrounded by fellow elites, he is accustomed to having his way and things working out. Somehow, they always have.

<snip>

What a sucker the American public has been. What a deal for Bush. All of that acquiescence for a $300 tax refund.

Now THAT'S one heck of a closing statement!
