Op-ed: Here's a tip, waiters: Yes, we're in a class war (great!)
This from the Albuquerque Tribine:

It was Labor Day. I was thinking about the plight of people in New Mexico whose income depends on tips to augment a pathetic wage that is half of the federal minimum.

Thousands and thousands of people in our state who labor at waiting tables and lugging food do so for a paycheck of almost nothing.

<snip>

No wonder Labor Day has come and gone without much celebration and with almost no commentary about what hypocrites and fat cats like to deride as playing "the class warfare" card in American politics.

The rich and powerful have been waging a class war against the rest of us for so long and with so much tenacity and pervasive subtlety that many of us forget the basic fact and irony of working life in our country.

1. Thinking the same thing yesterday.
Actually, the war is pretty much over. With the tax cuts now in place and the deficits rising to astounding levels, the middle class will be paying the freight for this country for decades.

On NPR yesterday, a Harvard professor spoke about the middle class and the amount of debt they are assuming. She said that the middle class was assuming massive debt by trying to move into suburbs with good education systems. They are paying a fortune to do so. Add a large tax burden on to that and I can see our economy in the dumpster for years to come.

Have we finished living through the "good times?" Perhaps it will be back to the robber baron era of the 1800's. That's where the Republicans want us.

2. We are in a class war..
...and unless we, the underclass, start a revolution, the upperclass victory will be complete.
