Bush's Worst Nightmare
New article from Stephen Medvic on www.tompaine.com

<snip>
In next year's election, crucial swing voters will make up their minds based on a combination of vague impressions they have of the candidates and their senses of the issue agendas developed by both parties. In the end, Bush will have Karl Rove and about $200 million to make sure that security is foremost in the minds of the voters. Rove's team will do its best to create the impression that the Democratic nominee is soft on security. You might call it a process of Dukakisification -- and there is no candidate riper for being Dukakisified than Howard Dean.

1. Not if he consults with Gary Hart
or bring him in the Cabinet as Sec'y of Dept of Homeland Security.

Hart will do a fine job.

4. There are several things that I can see
Happening to avoid this fate.

You are right, bringing Hart in as Secretary of Homeland Security is
one.

Another, bring Clark in as either VP or Secretary of Defense (and no I do not pass this one up, and yes I am assuming Dean wins the nomination)

Now a killer ticket from the point of view of service to the country
should include Clark and the true nightmare to the GOP is truly Kerry\ Clark no particular order... lemme see two war heroes, (medals have a certain cache, these two have a total of one sivler star, two bronze stars and two Purple Hearts combined)

Oh and no I am not a Clarkie, or a Deanie or anything like that.

I have been thinking how to turn those images that the GOP so studiously creates on their head.

2. Wow
I am by no means anti-dean. I like Dean and I'm interested in clark, and I don't really like anyone else so far. But, I have to say that this article articulated all my own fears about Dean and I think that it is dead right.

3. Well, I'm curious
Is any polling being done at this point about whether "national security" or "jobs" are the top concern among voters?

Jobs and wrong direction for the country.

6. CNN poll on yesterday states economy is top concern
Security was third on the list but don't remember the numbers, economic concerns are ton the voters minds, especially job security. The bush team has cried wolf so many times they risk overdoing it and turning voters away. People are getting fed up with all war all the time and are now looking to go back to peace and prosperity. All democrats have to do is remind them of the "good times" when the democrats were in control.

7. Not sure...
It doesn't so much matter what the top concern of people is right now when you have 200 million dollars and the office of the president to constantly drive YOUR message home.

IF bush can pay, lie, cheat and steal his way back to making security the issue, and Dean is his opponent, I believe he'll win. If he cannot I believE Dean would win.

If he can change the issue back to security and Clark is his opponent, I think Clark wins because Bush can't make him look inept, and Clark can make Bush look inept. And if Bush fails to change the subject to the enconomy, honestly I don't know if Clark has as many points for him as Dean would in that department -- though the argument could be made that bush sucks so bad on the enconomy that it wouldn't hurt Clark at all of that was the number 1 issue next november.

8. Killer Ticket?

Tell that to Max Cleland.

Not that I would mind the ticket at all, let's just remember the douche nags we're dealing with here.
