NBC's 'West Wing' to Take More Bipartisan Approach
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - When NBC's White House drama "The West Wing (news - web sites)" returns next week for its fifth year, the most obvious difference from last season will be that John Goodman (news), not Martin Sheen (news), is calling the shots in the Oval Office as the famously liberal show gets more bipartisan.

I say screw that. If I want "bipartisanship" (read a slow slide Rightward) I'll watch Sunday morning pindits.

2. Cool

There is simply too much Liberalism going on out here. :silly:

Add to that fact David Horowitz trying to make universities more Conservative and where DO YOU go for ANY progressive thought?

This is a very scary time in America.

3. "West Wing" without Aaron Sorkin?
Another reason not to regret throwing out my TV.

4. The kiss of death....
...especially since shows need to have a point of view--regardless of what it is.

Sounds like they'll be all over the board and appeal to no one as a result!

Sort of like Holy Joe!

Edited on Fri Sep-19-03 02:45 PM by realFedUp
I think they will be in a church praying for Zoe
in the first episode...that's my church. :-)

I will stick with this show if it is still addresses
what's really happening in the country.

This is technically GD material...I won't move it
but please post opinion pieces in this forum in
the future.

6. I'd love to see the new pres act like Bush.
Ignore reports, pass off important issues, not attend overseas meetings, avoid connecting dots, having enforcement agencies drop the ball, the agents involved get rewarded, and then it blows up 9/11 style -- only on -- TV.

14. well, he didn't drop the little dog ...
That would have broken the Humane Society's regs about animals in movies, anyway.

7. This has been my favorite show
of all times!! I don't want to see it change too much. However, I'm kinda hoping that John Goodman acting the ass will parallel Bush acting the ass and therefore reinforce the mistake in the White House.

I can't say this enough, I say it after every show is over, every week, and hope I get to continue this season...

I LOVE THIS SHOW!!" ;)

15. Sloppy Manners
He looks like a slob most of the time, and talks like an uncouth redneck. Anyone notice the bordering on harrassment comment? "You'd have to pay $2 extra for that at the Kit Kat club." when CJ was helping straighten his clothes.

9. Agreed
Martin Sheen is not going to be out of power for long though, right? Just a few episodes...please tell me that's right!

Make this a September to Remember

10. Great opening show of the season!
Loved everything about it....slower dialog pace, camera
angles, lighting, acting, shots of the church I go to...:-)

11. I thought last night's show was great.
I was crying at the end when they were doing the montage with the beautiful music. The episode grabbed you at the beginning and held you until the very end.

13. So did I and I too was crying
Especially when they showed the fence and all the Americans with the candles.

And was anyone else yelling "Bastards" at the Goodman Repug and his group!

Wish though they had left Sorkin write the first few episodes, would've loved to see where he was going with this. Read John Wells to his credit did want him to do that. Now I hope Wells doesn't turn WW in to another Third Watch (always thought that one could've been a good show but spends too much time with characters and their dysfunctional relationships off the job).

16. Boy!
Thank goodness! I thought I was the only one who was crying!! Really, really moving.

The Kit Kat Club comment was made when Goodman walked up while CJ's assistant was trying to get the dog hair off the backside of CJ's skirt, before she straightened his tie. I thought, now there's a guy comfortable in what southern rednecks call "titty bars." :eyes:

I'm gald they're playing him for the southern-redneck-uncouth-cowboy. How much closer to the truth could one possibly get??
