Black Commentator: What's up with the French? (you've GOT to read this!) |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-20-03 12:02 AM by scarletwoman
http://www.blackcommentator.com/56/56_cover_french.htmlWe have arrived at a pregnant moment in history. The Pirate’s furious lunge for world domination has come undone in the place it was to have begun. Less than six months after George Bush launched his campaign of Shock and Awe against Iraq and, by extension, the planet, he found himself on national television looking shell-shocked and awful, mouthing words that amounted to a plea for help from the international community. “{W}e cannot let past differences interfere with present duties,” said Bush to the world, visibly at war with his own lips. “Members of the United Nations now have an opportunity, and the responsibility, to assume a broader role in assuring that Iraq becomes a free and democratic nation.”<snip> Americans are unaccustomed to coherent political speech. Their neurons have been conditioned to respond to the bombast of Manifest Destiny and the code words of racism, leaving the bulk of the population incapable of rational thought. This crippling condition – which also compels white Americans to vote against their own interests – afflicts the U.S. information dispensing classes in full measure. Therefore, this pregnant moment in history will pass unnoticed by much of the American public, who have heard hardly a word of serious analysis of the French position on Iraq, as presented for general evaluation by French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin, September 12, in the Paris newspaper-of-record, Le Monde.<snip> “Everyone’s responsibility is quite clear,” said Colin Powell’s opposite number. De Villepin goes on to make perfectly clear that the world crisis radiating from Iraq is the product of monumental U.S. failure. “We are now facing the real risk of seeing the continuation of a spiral of failure fueled by the lack of a tangible political way forward.” The diplomat then presents France’s own, “Not-American” plan, a UN-centered proposal that would extract the Americans from Iraq before the U.S. can impose strangulating infrastructure “reconstruction,” privatization, military basing and, above all, oil rights agreements on the battered nation.
Packaged as a mere newspaper “article” so as to avoid the limitations of diplomat-speak, the French position is comprehensible to elites and politically attuned readers everywhere – except the Delusional States of America. Although elegantly crafted, the article all but shouts a challenge to U.S. hegemonic ambitions. France, the “Not-American” imperialist, is seizing the moment for which it has long prepared.(so much more -- MUST read!) sw (edited to fix html)

You know, what bothers me is that no single person of the misadministrations "straight shooters" can't utter anything meaningfull to the informed observers, the ones they should be talking to if wan't to achieve something. All their speach is directed to home audience, whom they rightly consider the dimwit sheeple they are. And the US media tries to beat the misadministration imbeciles by being even more idiotic.
Powell, who poses as diplomat, can't say anything but nope, no can do, and then lie some more. He does not even try to say anything that would make other players take him even half seriously. Kissinger mumbles something incoherent about geopolitics like a broken record. Only neocon who makes any sense is Robert Kagan, and even his main point is: "Sorry Kantian Europe, we Muricans are still Hobbesian political neanderthals, so just deal with that and let us rule."
Wolfowitz and Perle, the chief ideologues inside the misadministration? Sometimes they come close to saying what they really think, but stop right before making some sense. Yep, that spin thingy they must do, even though they don't like it and would rather speak their mind, cause they are true believers and proud of what they have thing. Could be interesting to see Wolfie/Perle and Villepin in a honest debate.

5. "And they will continue to fail, because they are unfit for... |
|
civilization as it is evolving."
Now that's what I call a brilliant finish. Excellent post, thanks!

7. Yeah, I LOVED that line! |

I've been thinking for some that that's really what it comes down to. The neocons are clinging fiercely to the old fear-based dominator model which arises straight out of the ancient reptilian part of the human brain.
But the consciousness of humanity is set to continually evolve and expand into greater awareness and higher reason -- it is absolutely essential for our continued survival as a species to shift into a more workable paradigm of cooperation and interconnection.
They are wreaking havoc in their death throes, but they shall not ultimately prevail...

Only I could never put it so eloquently. I usually just say things like 'old men dreaming old dreams of never-was' or sputter 'zombie death worshippers'. You have a way with real words... Again with the thanks!

9. The French don't have a lock on this position... |
|
"In the French construction, the way out requires that the Americans move towards the exit under a speedy, UN-supervised process."
PLENTY of Americans figured this out long before we invaded, and a lot more of us realized it the day after * 'declared victory.'
But I'm happy to give the French credit for it if they can do anything to help clean up the mess that the 'adults in charge' have gotten us into.
Vous somme arrivez, mes amis! Allons!! A travailez!
encouragingly, Bright
