Max Cleland editorial: Mistakes of Vietnam repeated with Iraq

The president of the United States decides to go to war against a nation led by a brutal dictator supported by one-party rule. That dictator has made war on his neighbors. The president decides this is a threat to the United States.

In his campaign for president he gives no indication of wanting to go to war. In fact, he decries the overextension of American military might and says other nations must do more. However, unbeknownst to the American public, the president's own Pentagon advisers have already cooked up a plan to go to war. All they are looking for is an excuse
<snip>

Sound familiar? It does to me.

The president was Lyndon Johnson.

1. Excellent piece Senator Cleland
I'm sorry bu$h didn't go to Nam too, Max. Nice to see Max back in the thick of things. I know the election theft in GA hurt him deeply. His observations are of course right on. Max should know, he learned the lesson the hard way - all while chickenhawk bushie was snorting cocaine and playing hookey from the guard.

This will never make any sense to me. A highly decorated Vietnam soldier like Max Cleland is dumped on by the repukes in the name of patriotism and a chickenhawk chickenshit gets to call himself commander in chief. This world is so twisted.

When Georgia--a southern state, supposedly so "patriotic", rejects a vet in the name of "patrioism"... wow, that really shows you how messed up the country is. Repugs have a stranglehold beyond our comprehension.
