Worst fears on Clark and policy making coming true.
http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/2976.htm

GEN. Wesley Clark began his campaign for president on one wrong step, in the opinion of President Clinton's former aides, by hiring ex-Clinton and Gore adviser Mark Fabiani.

Fabiani got low marks from Clinton insiders as deputy campaign manager for communications and strategy in Gore's 2000 presidential campaign. They complain that Fabiani relied too much on polls and not enough on the issues.
--

Sorry guys, how are we supposed to have any trust that these are Clark's true positions if his darn campaign manager has been proven to be poll driven.

Ack

10. No proof per se but the guy has no record and is a blank slate policy wise
and I'm worried that we will have to take everything at face value without having some sort of history of where he stands.

He just declared he is a Democrat 2 weeks ago, but he was fundraising for Republicans 2 years ago.

I am a Democrat, I've been a Democrat my whole life, and I want to be able to vote for a Democrat in Nov 2004.

2. NY Post = RW Tabloid
I think it will take some time to sort out what is true or not about Clark and his campaign. But there is one thing for sure - RW publications will be used to destroy Clark as soon as possible. This is another example of that.

Support who you want - but do not become the water carrier for the Rove machine. If you prefer another candidate, fine, but aiding and abetting the Bush admin. is not how to support your candidate. Please.

3. Well, the Left is Complaining About Fabiani, Too
Such as this example.

But I somewhat disagree, or at least I'm reserving judgment. Joe Trippi (Dean's campaign manager) is a campaign veteran, and some people don't like him, either (from past campaigns). Being a campaign operative doesn't always make you friends.

8. Dude. Lehane's not joining Clark's team.
Get your facts straight. I respect 'Kos, but I don't take his musings about contingencies as ordained facts.

14. Who said anything about Lehane?
Besides Kos, that is? I was responding to the point that it's not only the right wing that has complained about Fabiani. And actually I was defending Clark in the process!

15. Point taken.
the 'Kos article mentions Fabiani in the context of bringing in Lehane, but I've certainly seen a few people complain about the Gore team.

I hope our guys behave. The press, even those not as radical as Novak, have their knives sharpened. If the race beomes about politics, Bush could win. If it stays about how to run the government in the next four years, we take the presidency and both houses.

7. Since when is Bob Novak's opinion about Gore the "facts"?
This place is getting ridiculous.

12. Apologies to Clark fans. I have been getting snarky lately.
Don't want to turn myself into the next Nicholas J!

Need to pull myself away because I'm taking this too seriously. I think I'm going to read a mindless book right now.

Just an aside, since Novak wrote this I wonder if the "former aides" he's talking about are Carville or Begala while they were on the Crossfire set? Or maybe a guest?

Crossfire would be a great place to pick up this sort of thing.

13. No apologies necessary. We're all working to the same goal.
Except Novak. He's the snarky one.

I agree that it might have come in a casual moment, probably an off-the-record moment, from either Carville or Begala. We know that Novak runs loose with confidential info. Probably one of the two said something in one of their rare (or not so rare) moments of hubris. I don't think they'd ever say that in public, since it would be analogous to Michael Jordan talking about the performance of the guy who replaced him on the Bulls. For good or bad, few are at their level.
