Globe: Bush calls Kennedy's criticism "uncivil" |
|
Boston.com / News / Nation / Bush calls Kennedy's Iraq criticism `uncivil' By Anne E. Kornblut, Globe Staff, 9/22/2003
LOS ANGELES -- Escalating an increasingly bitter rhetorical feud over Iraq, President Bush fired back at Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts yesterday, saying it was "uncivil" for the Democrat to accuse the administration of bribing foreign nations to take part in the postwar effort. Bush said the senator "should not" have made the remark.
In a separate appearance, Kennedy also described an $8.5 billion loan guarantee to Turkey as an administration attempt to bribe the country into offering military assistance in Iraq. The remarks sparked a partisan battle over the appropriateness of criticizing the president, with House majority leader Tom DeLay accusing Kennedy of reaching a "new low."
Bush, who had originally declined to respond to the attack, used an interview with Fox News anchorman Brit Hume yesterday to take Kennedy to task.
"I mean, Senator Kennedy, who I respect, and with whom I have worked, should not have said we were trying to bribe foreign nations," Bush said, according to a partial transcript made available last night by the network. "I mean, my regret is -- I don't mind people trying to pick apart my policies, and that's fine and that's fair game. But, you know, I don't think we're serving our nation well by allowing the discourse to become so uncivil that people say -- use words that they shouldn't be using."

1. hmmm apparently bush doesnt like ted being "Politically Incorrect" |
|
And i think it is interesting that bush didn't actually DENY Kennedy's allegations. Ted wasn't "civil" but apparently he was accurate.

I suppose Bush somehow thinks he deserves a higher standard of behavior out of the Democrats than Clinton ever got out of the Republicans. Why exactly would that be? I mean just because our leaders don't bash him for immorality whild simultaineously sleeping around on their critically ill wife doesn't mean they couldn't. They just have a concience.

17. Higher standard - HA HA HA HA HA - seems like he ran on the |
|
"moral" stance of being above what the last elected President appeared to have projected.
Once he got in, though, he managed to get every outlet to treat him more delicately than any other President ever had been treated.
I wouldn't even grade Bush as "exceeds expectations" (since expectations were very low for his "pResidency", it shouldn't have been too hard for him to rise above that level).
Also rather funny how a stock market gain is trumpeted, even though a larger actual gain under the Clinton administration ranked a smaller percentage gain. A hundred point gain for a stock market value of 10500 means less than 90 point gain for a stock marked value of 8500.

invade a sovereign nation without provocation and treat innocent "civilians" (there's that word again) to "shock and awe" tactics that kill and maim them and destroy their country for the sole purpose of lining the pockets of the BFEE and its cronies?

12. In the words of my mother... |
|
...that's the pot calling the kettle black!
Need we remind ourselves tht the current uncivility started with the bush '88 campaign and kicked to a new low with the 8 year hissy fit that the rethuglicans had over Clinton's election when they thought that the White House was theirs by some form of devine right?
Another lesson my mother taught me. If you're going to dish it out, you'd better be able to take it!

15. The IMPORTANT thing: they call him 'uncivil' NOT 'incorrect'. |
|
Ted must know something or the repukes would be falling all over themselves to blast his comments- these rebukes by Bush* and that dick Delay are tepid by their normal foam-at-the-mouth standards. And all the other pukes are staying well away from it.
I bet Ted has something really juicy to share right around election time.

Rip the little bastard a new one.
There's a time to be civil. A little incivility seems to be in order here.
If Ted was a better driver history might have been a lot different.
