A DU review of why the GOP want US dependent on Wealthy mood/handouts
I am beginning to understand the faith based push that Bush is cheerleading - he wants all help for the poor to come from a cloying
Dependence on the wealthy. The state is replaced by the assumption that philanthropy from business people and the other rich is all that is needed to run the country's non-defense needs - we should have a government with no power to tax the rich (say left with only a national sales tax - no tax on income from investments) that tries to run the country and follow an economic policy based on the whims of millionaires, and their current mood, and level of handouts.

Anyone who wants to help the poor - via Church or a non-profit - must depend on contributions from the wealthy - a world based on handouts that are received with the proper show of appreciation, including shaping all policy to fit the du jour desires of
their financiers. Charity becomes the business card of the rich - not low wages, poor working conditions, bad environment, and rip-offs of the public treasury via corporate welfare in taxes and contracts. Gee - this will make other country's rich want to invest in the US because of our better investment climate (as in all those 3rd world countries with one family controlling billions and the rest starving).

So we underfund "No child left behind", and accept the investor flight from lack of high quality academic manpower, because of all the low paid jobs we will take away from China with our cheap labor and fond appreciation for the rich. We even lower taxes on the rich to levels that pass the debt to our children, so that the rich will have so much on their table that they will "throw a few crumbs" to the non-rich. What a great society the GOP are bringing us - where all pretending that we are a democracy ends, and the rich know that they need not hide their ability to hand out orders in exchange for handouts. And the GOP yell "increase the motivation of the rich with low taxes" and we all understand that they mean that once we end state welfare and are totally dependent of the rich, we will really fear not pleasing the rich - cause, hey, they could move to a better country and take their jobs with them!

What a great party is the GOP.

1. Good Post.....You know, your post reminds me....
...of an old story from when Henry Ford first started producing
automobiles for the average person.

He was criticized at a board meeting by one of his officers who said:
"Why do you pay the workers so much at your factory"...We could make more money by lowering their wages"

Henry looked at him and said "Yeah, But then, Who is gonna' buy the cars?"

2. Was that before or after Ford
and company bought up all the inter-urban rail lines that, prior to WWII, was the mass transit in this country? Once purchased the tracks were ripped out of the ground, essentially FORCING the working class move toward the necessity of automobile ownership--and ultimately our oil-dependant social infrastructure.

If there is ONE human being who is MOST responsible for our current human predicament, it is assembly line, oil guzzling, HENRY FORD. The same fascist robber barons and worse are now driving us toward the cliff edge of civilization while they stuff their coffers with profits. I ask you, where is the LEADERSHIP with VISION for a better world that recognizes human ideals and values as a REAL source of wealth?

Most people don't even know what the hell I'm talking about.

3. I believe you are referring to General Motors Diesel Train division
Which ran a war against electric trains - turns out electric is cost effective - and Diesel is not - for commuter trains. Then in the 50's GM (and I suspect Ford) fought the spending of any money converting the money losing commutter trains back to electric - we needed for National Defense the Interstate Highway system.

So we now have all those bike paths!

But hang in there - Mass is extending its commutter rail into the rich seashore towns on the south shore (GOP GOv Romney made decision today).

At a reality level, the Concerned Scientist folks have designed with off the shelf parts a SUV getting 36.3 mph that is the same size as the top line Ford Explorer. Add a hy-bred and we are over 50 mph for a SUV.

Now what are the odds Detroit will produce this before Korea and Japan?

:-)

4. Yes, it's called feudalism. They're the lords and we're the
vassals, the serfs. Everything we have will come from them by their favor. We will bow to them in order to eat.
