Will Pitt Is A National Treasure!
if you haven't read today's editorial, hurry!
(mods, if this is a dupe, please forgive.)

Situation Excellent, I Am Attacking
By William Rivers Pitt
t r u t h o u t | Perspective
Wednesday 24 September 2003

"That's the spirit, George. If nothing else works, then a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through."
-- General Sir Anthony Cecil Hogmanay Melchett, 'Blackadder Goes Forth'

There is not enough grammar in the entirety of the English language to describe the incredible international humiliation that has befallen the United States of America. That this humiliation was brought down upon the American people by the man supposedly in charge of the country is, in all honesty, no big surprise for those who have been watching this all unfold. The layers of crushing embarrassment have been building like river sediment for months upon months upon months. On Tuesday, however, George W. Bush managed to completely obliterate the hard-won standing the United States has earned within the global community.

more, including a most powerful ending...

2. that last paragraph gave me chills
and i don't usually react that way to editorials. his style is classic ciceronian structure, and his metaphors stay with the reader.

4. Excellent article!
He accurately describes the humiliation Bush has brought on America. Like most of you, I especially loved the last paragraph! I'm glad Will left us with that glorious and hopeful image.

5. This is one of his best yet!
"The Iraq-9/11 connection has been so thoroughly debunked that Bush himself was forced recently to publicly denounce it, while claiming shock that anyone would think he'd try to make such a connection. Yet there he stood before the judgment of the world, coughing up the same old hairball on their carpet."

Folks, you've all GOTTA read this one!

Will NAILS it!

16. Thanks for the welcome, newyawker99
I feel like a 5-year-old kids who's just been dropped off at Disneyland.

Things move FAST around here, but it sure looks fun!

(Hopefully I'll qualify for the 'search' feature fairly soon)

Will Pitt's essays are always good but this one is right up there with Lewis Lapham. Passionate and a pure joy to read. Literary excellent!

13. Once in a great while
a person comes along who can string words together into a tapestry that paints a picture right before your eyes and makes you stand in awe and wonder that the english language can be so expressive. Will Pitt is a wordsmith and a poet.

15. The last 2 paragraphs made me go bipolar
The next to the last paragraph had me sobbing, literally, over what was lost since 9-11. And then the last paragraph, gave me wings of hope, and I visualized Howard Dean saying "so help me God".

Great piece.
