Will the Real Wesley Clark Please Stand Up?

Wesley Clark doesn't seem to have much of an idea of what he thinks about health care, jobs, education or any other domestic issue, and there's therefore a major question about his presidential candidacy. Why is he running?
One answer was that he had his position on the war in Iraq figured out. After publication of a New York Times story about his remarks on a campaign plane, the assumption becomes problematic. He seemed uncertain whether he would have voted for the congressional resolution authorizing a U.S. invasion.

"I don't know if I would have or not," the Times quotes him as musing. "I've said it both ways, because when you get into this, what happens is you have to put yourself in a position. On balance, I probably would have voted for it."

As the interview on the plane proceeded, he called on his press secretary, who was in the front of the plane. "Mary, help!"

She seems to have had the response he was seeking. "You said you would have voted for the resolution as leverage for a U.N.-based solution," she is quoted as saying by way of rescue, and he is pleased.

"Right. Exactly."

The man obviously hasn't thought of much in regard to platforms or issues, he flip-flops about the Iraq Resolution, and he only "confessed" that he was a "Democrat" a few days ago. And yet some people fawn over this guy like cheerleaders swooning over the new guy on the football team.

4. People need something to believe in

and frankly, I think you're ignoring the fact that Clark trumps Bush's pathetic Commander-in-Chief justification for everything. At first glance, he looks like the perfect candidate, which is why everyone is jumping on the bandwagon. Nobody's perfect and we'll see how he lasts long-term. But, he's a pretty good counterpoint to Bush right off the bat.

And remember - a year ago, most of us were resigned to the fact that BushCo was going to be in power forever and were pretty damn disheartened. Now, there's actually real hope, especially in combination with the relative strength of the other 9 candidates.

Anything or anyone that gives people hope that Bush is out of there and mobilizes people to voice opinions and more importantly, vote Bush out of office, is a good thing.

Clark isn't trumping anything, he's pandering to the same unthinking martial mindset that Bush tries to exploit. the military is the answer to everything, or if it isn't the answer, we need a military man to say so. i say bullsh*t to that. it's sort of like saying we need to hire a burglar to be our chief of police.
