Withdraw from Iraq
By George McGovern and Jim McGovern | June 6, 2005

WE WERE early opponents of the US invasion of Iraq. Nonetheless, once American forces were committed, we hoped that our concerns would be proven wrong. That has not been the case.

The United States must now begin an orderly withdrawal of our forces from this mistaken foreign venture.

The justification for the war was based on false or falsified information. What had been initially characterized by the Bush administration as an uncomplicated military operation has turned into a violent quagmire. Our leaders underestimated not only the insurgency, but also the deep-rooted ethnic divisions in Iraqi society.

1. Dumbest Editorial Ever Written?
When are the morons who waste time writing idiotic drivel like this editorial going to realize that there is a very simple reason for the White House and the Pentagon's LACK OF EXIT STRATEGY:

The USA is NOT EXITING any time soon.

Don't get the picture?

The ONLY Ministry in Iraq that has not been completely annhilated by the unprovoked attack and illegal US occupation is the OIL MINISTRY. This was secured as part of JOB ONE, since Iraq possesses large (HUGE, actually) OIL RESERVES... The USA wants to keep track of these reserves. Call it "stewardship," if you must, but if ANYONE is going to exploit these oilfields, it is going to be the "good ol' US of A..."

Still can't figure it out?

You do not invade and occupy a sovereign and non-hostile nation, install an UNREPRESENTATIVE puppet government, secure the country's natural resources with miliary force and BUILD FOURTEEN PERMANENT MILIARY BASES IF YOU ARE GOING TO LEAVE anytime soon.

Pretty simple logic, if you ask me.

3. Why do you say this editorial is dumb?
Editorials give opinions about what is happening, why, and what should happen or why not. I do not understand why you call an editorial dumb for calling for the exit of the USA from Iraq.

6. I don't think its dumb to speak out against thievery and thuggery.
Yes its wrong what the neocon thugs are doing. Does that mean we just sit and watch? Or worse yet - listen to you! If you must be angry and frustrated turn it toward the neocons, not people who are speaking for justice.

7. Perhaps you misunderstood my replies...
I thought adding the /sarcasm specification would make it clearer, because my question was "metaphorically" addressed to little king george the third reicher ... (wink-wink)

Re: "Village Idiot" also wrote his post "metaphorically," as in he was "ironically" writing it like if it was the little king george the third reicher. ;) ;)

I may have been wrong, but I am not wrong when I say I am on your side, seriously. I do hope the little king george the third reicher will be impeached, along with his whole bunch of PNAC gangsters. So don't get my words wrong, please and:

Welcome to DU! :)

8. Too bad ex-CIA agent and anti-war activist Ray McGovern
did not contribute to this article as well. We could have had a McGovern-a-trois breaking out. :-)
