Can a Liberal Be Happy With a Conservative and Vice Versa?

"In his saner times, my husband realizes that his political attitudes are a way to channel his depression and anger. But not usually. He listens to those angry talk shows all day long. ... It seems he must have some form of mental instability. What else could justify his support of a war that was so obviously a tragically misguided and politically manipulated revenge for 9/11?

"I'm a teacher, and I write children's books. I'm active in church and in community affairs, and my husband just laughs at all that, because my salary isn't even enough to pay the taxes on his income. I've pretty much made my life with real people and culture and activities, and he has pretty much made his with work and money and toys: television (sports and stock programs) and computers. I put on a happy face and joke about this `being married to my opposite' thing all the time, and I tell myself that in his heart he really wouldn't want all of those poor Iraqi children and families killed. But I'm not so sure how much heart anyone of the conservative ilk really has."

1. I once thought the answer was yes (of course)
but now I am not so sure. The politics of the right are so diametric to everything I believe. The right has opted for separation, exclusion and vilification of all who disagree. With them or against them is all I can think.

2. My hubby is a repig...no politics shared with him....
Like all repigs, his temper flares up and he ends up calling me names like, welfare lover, communist, etc. He does know that I LOVE MY COUNTRY, but his way to win is to insult.

He watches that O'Reilly lier and listens to limpballs sometimes. One big problem we have, he is 12 years older(70 y.o) and that makes a lot of difference in our politics and even our music. I grew up attending demonstrations, dancing rock & roll and singing peace songs. He says that I'm part of the wacko generation. In all, we get along great in our marriage, but don't talk politics.

12. Certainly some subjects are better left alone
and all marriages have them.

But I wouldn't leave the TV on Fox.

3. Nope
I could not make love to a conservative. Even if she was a hottie.

What a ridiculous question.

Any romance based on politics was never a romance to begin with.

What's next, only Catholics can fall in love with Catholics?

Peace.

ON EDIT: Hmm, I sounded a little harsher than intended. It just made me laugh a little when I recall my own experiences trying to find a pattern to the way love comes into your life. Love is its own animal, and pays no heed to the silly things we get all sturm-und-drang about. I would far rather live a life filled with good love instead of good politics. If a bit of political incompatibility is the price to be paid for the love and friendship of an amazing person, then I consider it a bargain. :-)

5. All my friends married to repukes are not in happy marriages.
I am married to a bleeding heart liberal, (like me) and we are still madly in love after more than 20 years. Not very scientific but that's my experience

10. exactly!
I have uninformed friends but, frankly, If you are a friend of Bush, we are so far apart in our belief systems that there is no point. How can you respect someone who has no empathy or compassion? All they can possibly be is self centered and greedy! This is not the kind of person I would trust my friendship with.
