The Increasingly Unpopular President (WaPo)
By Dan Froomkin

Friday, June 10, 2005; 12:57 PM

When President Bush says "polls go up, and polls go down," he's about half right.

Two new public-opinion surveys show Bush's poll numbers are dropping into solidly negative territory.

In the just-out Associated Press/Ipsos poll , Bush's job approval ratings and the public's confidence in the direction he's taking the nation are both at their lowest levels ever.

<snip>

And the more you dig into the results, the worse it gets.

1. But the troubling thing about this is that the rethugs in congress
show no sign of being troubled by this! This tells me that they do seem sure of controlling the election somehow not to be concerned with the low polls for the president and congress!! What are we doing to make sure they (rethugs) don't steal another election!

2. This is delicious
The press has a long tradition of "piling on" once the president is perceived as wounded or vulnerable. I'm seeing more and more negative reports on this crook in the last 7-10 days than in the previous five years. This does NOT absolve them for their prior irresponsibility but at this dark juncture, I'll take it where I can get it.

4. It's a five page article with lots of examples of piling on.
Even the Houston Chronicle is getting into the act.

7. love the article - esp the rundown on issues
at the end of the article.

Nominated it before the time to do so runs out.

13. My sarcasm gene is switched off due to irony overload
Which doesn't adequately explain why I hate America.

But it's hard to tell these days. :)
