The American People Have Been Had
http://www.sptimes.com/2005/06/12/Columns/The_American_people_h.shtml

By PHILIP GAILEY, St. Petersburg Times
Published June 12, 2005

Excerpts
. . .
The growing pessimism about the war in Iraq suggests the public is not buying the upbeat assessments coming out of the Bush-Cheney administration. Americans don't need access to top secret documents to know the war is not the "cakewalk" administration hawks predicted it would be.
. . .
At a joint White House news conference last week, both Bush and Blair denied that intelligence had been "fixed" to justify military action.

"There's nothing farther from the truth," Bush said.

"No," Blair added, "the facts were not being fixed in any shape or form at all."

Some will ask: What's the point of bringing up the Downing Street memo now, two years after the invasion and at a time when terrorist suicide bombers are making life hell not only for U.S. troops but the Iraqi people? The point is this: President Bush didn't level with the American people before going to war. And he still hasn't.

1. Generals are finally
speaking up or rather, getting listened to as they had been doing this before the war. This time they can point to actual results not reasoned fears and say I told you so. More newspapers seem to be headlining the truth. An editorial revolt can only happen in the paper world. Counter spinning TV will be last swept up into the storm. It should make for ghastly entertainment for historians(or juries) of the future.

2. there's an easy way to tell when bush* and poodle are lying...
their lips are moving. Seriously. Honestly and truthfully examine their entire schtick. Little to no truth to be found. Conclusion: lying sacks of shit.

3. I recall demonstrating with millions across the world in February
of 2003 saying this was a bogus war. There were many Americans that could see right through the phony patriotism and right wing name calling of those dissenters. Unfortunately, many more bought the bullshit marketed by Bush and his neocons cabal. Now they are asking questions?-after 1700 dead soldiers and countless Iraqi casualties? The truth was out there for all to see ,IMHO, but those who chose to wave their flags and their freedom fries deserve what they got.

4. Right you are.
I have copies of letters to my Senators and Representative from August 2002 demanding that the phony war be prevented. It was quite apparent that Bush was going to invade no matter what, and that the justification was trumped up, not to mention irrational.
