15. W would win in a cakewalk, even with 30% approval ratings, as long
as Repukes control the voting machines in key states.

take effect for the current administration. This would need to take affect several terms after being passed.

Ahh who cares. It would be well worth watching Clinton taking Bush to the woodshed, like he did his father.

Remember, Clinton's approval rating (while being impeached) is almost twice that of Mr "ManDates" current rating.

Cheers

5. Wouldn't This Also Have To Be Ratified By 2/3 States?
Worrisome, it seems these vermin come up with a new evil plan ever other second. Have they been assigned office space in hell? However I firmly believe **sh is trending down and he won't be able to hold on long enough to see this passed.

6. Wasn't it Republicans who wanted the 22nd Amendment in the first place
as a retaliation for FDRs terms?

10. And in typical hate mongering fashion it back fired on them
Because Eisenhower could have easily been reelected in 1960.

7. This is not new
The resolution has been in Congress since early 2001 (as I recall). It was introduced twice: once with only one sponsor, once with eight (I think--several of which were Democrats). The resolution has been stuck inthe judiciary committee ever since. Also, it takes more than a Republican Congress to amend the constitution. It must be ratified by 3/4 of the states. Not easy to amend the Constitution. It is not likely that this would happen before Bush is out of office... if it happens at all.

Still wise to keep an eye on it, though.

9. This is great news folks...
Every time the Republicans try something like this, we should be happy. Their arrogance and hatred for America only angers and energized the anti-bush crowd, which is quickly turning into an anti-Republican population.

In 2006 we should have a huge turnout for the elections. If they are truly capable of stealing elections, then this doesn't matter anyways. But if not, we could really make a statement.

I see something like this as a blessing.

11. They'll Never Get 2/3 vote in House/Senate
So this bill will never get to the States for ratification.

12. I doubt the states will pass it as well.
I also doubt that they'll get it passed by the voters in each state.

Not to mention the fact that Bush's poll numbers are sinking faster then the Titanic.

This just looks to be the work of an overzealous right wing zealot looking to gain favour with the Bush Administration/KKKarl Rove.

13. Clinton's Idea
Eighteen months ago Bill Clinton suggested the 22nd Amendment should be repealed. He would not be able to run again because he was President under the old Constitutional laws. When the Republican Congress changed it when Truman was President, the change did not apply to Truman and he could have run for a third term if he wanted. No former President today could run if the 22nd were Repealed. Also, as far as the states going for it, if the neo-cons still own and operate the voting machines it would pass the states.

18. That's because the 22nd Amendment made an exception
Edited on Wed Jun-15-05 12:06 AM by Jack Rabbit
It said specifically that it didn't apply either to the person holding the office at the time it was proposed or to the person holding the office at the time it was adopted.

Please click here.

The proposed amendment before Congress simply states that the 22nd Article of Amendment is repealed. No exceptions. If they could ratify it by 2008, Bush could run for a third term.

19. Would that then, also allow Clinton to run?
Imagine - no outright rigging - Clinton wins hands down...
Rigging - and maybe, just maybe we see a Ukranian type response from the population ... while we think that it can't happen here... I am not so sure, given the right circumstances.

14. And they know for certain W will win if he can run again, even with 30%
or less approval ratings during the campaign he would win in a slam dunk.

17. I'm not terribly worried about this
It takes a two-thirds vote of each House of Congress to send an amendment off to the states for ratification.

It's not going to happen. This is something I think we can depend on enough Democrats hanging together in order to shoot it down.
