Big Fires Need Lots Of Water |
|
George Bush has two problems. They are very big problem. The first is that the American people want their troops out of Iraq. The second is he has committed offenses (clearly the high crime of lying to Congress in an Official and required report and probably treason as well) to the law which properly should subject him to impeachment under the Article of the Constitution.
The greater of George's problems is the matter of impeachment. The crimes have been committed and incontrovertible evidence is becoming available to the public. The call for impeachment is being heard around the land and there is growing support for it among the people. Grueling as impeachment is for the Government and as divisive as it might be a growing number of people are hot for it.
George has to mask public attention to hide the impeachment debate and the way truth is hidden by the Bush administration has consistently been to drown out the public discussion of substantive matters with the trivial. However big fires need lots of water to put them out. A brain-dead woman in a cooperative state isn't available now, no Democrat's history of service to country is available for challenge, only one pretty little white girl gone missing and that won't last for long, no babies down a well at the moment What will it take this time?
I would suggest that the only story big enough to divert attention from impeachment now is the announcement of an administration plan for rapid removal of our troops from Iraq. Its the only story big enough to defuse the impeachment issue and save Bush himself. Can it happen?
Well, it depends on who's running the show. If it is the American people who are in control of their Government then there will be first-step (inquiry) proceedings begun by our Congressional Representatives which may or may not lead to impeachment. If the Neocons are in charge George will be sacrificed to impeachment but we will hold in the middle east. And if George is in charge we'll pull out of Iraq.
This is my speculation. What is yours?

a good thing for Republicans if Bush pulled out of Iraq but that's just a realistic point of view. These guys are nuts. They want to go for the whole enchillata--another war or two is what they have in mind.

Certainly a war with Syria would be a great distraction.

5. Frankly, I think we have finally reached the point where another |

pointless war with another ME country will completely and totally enrage a large proportion of the country. It will NOT "rally us around the flag." And another 9/11 will demonstrate to everyone that this administration can't keep us "safe." (Never mind the fact that we can never, and have never, been perfectly safe.)
So, the two big emotional, subconscious reasons why the public pulled the lever for * are blown out of the water. That will not sit well with that public, and I do think they would howl for impeachment.
I also think the neocons know this, and the most likely scenario is removal of Bush, since he is a figurehead. I'm not saying impeachment, I'm saying a health crisis of some sort. The neocons still want their ME armageddon plans to go through, so a shakeup at the top is the perfect distraction. They may not have the balls to do this, though. We'll see.
The second option is the start of a major pulllout from Iraq. That also would pacify the masses, but at the loss of the neocons' objective of stirring up the ME.
