Scathing editorial on Iraq from Utah Salt Lake City Tribune
From Utah, that bastion of liberalism:

"The American soldier is not the property of the state, cannon fodder to be tossed here or there as it suits those in power..."

"The problem is not what happened in Iraq. Nobody is sorry to see Saddam go. The problem is the Bush doctrine of pre-emptive action, the idea that the United States can attack whomever it wants, whenever it wishes, no matter what the rest of the world thinks. That is what causes other nations, particularly the democracies that would otherwise be our natural allies, to see the United States not as the keeper of the world's security, but as a primary threat to it. "

1. there are some good liberals in Utah, believe it or not
I know one. Also, Salt Lake City prior to the war had a couple of good sized anti-war rallies with at least 3,000 people showing up.

4. Remember, Salt Lake City also has a Socialist Democrat as mayor too.
And haven't had a Republican serve since the 70s.

2. Wonder what's coming out of Orrin's hatch these days?
Wonder what Sen. Hatch thinks of this pre-emptive
strike against a very weak country?

3. Republican Legislators
Unless they are so totally out it Republican legislators have got to be worried about getting re-elected. I mean how much longer can their constitutencies (stupid or misled as they are) go on supporting policies that get themselves killed and/or throw them into poverty?

5. Wrong! The American soldier is indeed the property of the state
and cannon fodder to be tossed wherever Rummy so wishes. That is the reality.
