1. Pretty simple, actually...

They think the hardliner will be more interested in reactionary social repression than a nuclear program. Bu$hCo will be happy to strike a deal wherein they "look the other way" while the hardliners clamp down hard on human rights, in exchange for a more open posture toward the west vis a vis their nuclear program.

2. Or maybe they think that the hardliner will rail against the Great Satan
a lot and provide the Bushies with lots of sound bites to scare Middle America with.

4. Hardliners are more demonic, and this is great...
