‘We Were There’-RE Operation Truth
An Iraq veteran hopes his new group will generate a grassroots effort to examine what went wrong with Washington’s post-war plans

Aug. 6 - U.S. Army Reservist Paul Rieckhoff won accolades for leading a platoon in one of the most dangerous areas of Baghdad. When he returned to the United States after his 10 months in Iraq, he began to talk about the flaws in the Bush administration’s war plans. But don’t compare him to Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, who spoke out against U.S. involvement in Vietnam after returning with honors from his tour of duty. “I am not protesting against the war,” says Rieckhoff, 29. “I am talking about the war.”
