Bush speech long on scare tactics, short on answers
President Bush told us Tuesday night that we can't leave Iraq before the job is done. He didn't say how we'll know when the job is done.
He said we're fighting for freedom in Iraq and the Middle East. He didn't say what happens if free Iraqis elect an anti-American government dominated by Islamic fundamentalists and allied with Iran.
<snip>
Bush said nothing about his disastrous decision to make war on the cheap with too few troops for a successful occupation. He didn't say whether the insurgency is in its last throes, as Vice President Dick Cheney recently said, or could last up to 12 years, as Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld predicts.
<snip>
It will be interesting to see if a majority of Americans can again be conned into believing in the mythical link between Iraq and 9/11, a link that even Bush has acknowledged never existed.
