Week old under the radar story about GOP rigging election:
Baltimore Chronicle has following story:

In the months before the 2004 presidential election, a firm called Sproul & Associates launched voter registration drives in at least eight states, most of them swing states. The group--run by Nathan Sproul, former head of the Arizona Christian Coalition and the Arizona Republican Party--had been hired by the Republican National Committee.
Sproul got into a bit of trouble last fall when, in certain states, it came out that the firm was playing dirty tricks in order to suppress the Democratic vote: concealing their partisan agenda, tricking Democrats into registering as Republicans, surreptitiously re-registering Democrats and Independents as Republicans, and shredding Democratic registration forms.

The scandal got a moderate amount of local coverage in some states--and then the election was over. Now anyone who brought up Nathan Sproul, or any of the other massive crimes and improprieties committed on or prior to Election Day, was shrugged off as a dealer in "conspiracy theory."

It seems that Sproul did quite a lot of work for the Republicans. Exactly how much did he do? More specifically, how much did the RNC pay Sproul & Associates?

If you went online last week to look up how much money Sproul received from the Republicans in 2004, you would have found that, according to the party (whose figures had been posted by the Center for Responsive Politics), the firm was paid $488,957.

In fact, the RNC paid Sproul a great deal more than that. From an independent study of the original data filed by the Republicans with the Federal Election Commission, it is clear that Sproul was paid a staggering $8.3 million for its work against the Democrats.

This is incredible....I have not heard of this before in such detail.

No one would have found it in the 2004 Election forum which has been buried away in the basement of this site.

3. At the time, people said it wasn't important because it was about
registration, not votes.

But what would the point of falsifying registration data be?

Simple. If you have 55% registered as dems, and 45% repub, it makes it hard to explain a vote turnout that is 53% repub. But falsely register enough dems as repub, narrowing the gap from 10% to 5%, and you can have a 53% repub victory counted as within the MOE, explain it as crossovers because of the new evangelicals and people frightened by terra.

It's cover for the subsequent vote fraud.

29. Very good analysis
Also helps make the polling companies increase the percentage of Republicans they factor into pre-election polling.

4. Wow! Who will be held accountable for this?
We need to send this to as many Dem leaders as we can.

I will be faxing this article to Kerry, Kennedy, Reid, Dean and as many others as I can find faxes for tonight.

We can't let this die.

5. The story of the theft of the 2004 election is NOT going away.

In fact, it will profit immensely by the revelation of Rove's other misdeeds, and his true character.

10. Was somewhat visible, but always good to re-read
I think the DSM and related issues are getting most of the attention lately. Election reform is still a very very important issue for me, but I have to admit I've poured nearly all of my activist effort into DSM activism since it broke 5/1/05. I wish I could clone myself for each issue I care about. There just arent enough hours in the day to combat all the Bush scandals. I think that Bush lied about the war is an easier issue to get into the public discourse, for the present time.

17. voter registration forms need to be serial numbered and accounted for in
all cases. if you give em out, you need to return them, signed or unsigned. you should not be allowed to give them to people to "take home" to fill out.

PS - this would not stop people from falsifying documents but it might cut down on opportunities to do naughty things like throw them in the trash.

Of course we didn't lose... there was never anything to win. Not with people like this doing every trick in the book plus a slew of new ones. Nope there wasn't even an election as far as I know... just merest perception of one.

21. Nathan "Evil GOP Bastard" Sproul RNC payment story added to...
http://bushcheated04.com

Shallow Throat: Internal numbers showed Bush tanking in Oregon, Nevada, West Virginia and Ohio. Luckily the RNC had hired Nathan Sproul to focus on voter registration in several key states. Unfortunately a majority of newly registered voters intended to vote for Kerry. We knew Nathan was resourceful, very well paid and would know what to do, if you know what I mean.

27. That is a pic of Nathan Sproul. Wish I could find one of Franklin County's
Matt Damschroeder of the 68 voting machines held back on election day. Help spread http://bushcheated04.com

We may not be able to get people to read the Conyer's report but 10 minutes with BushCheated04 can go a long way towards making the case while entertaining and most importantly mocking the opponent. I take pride in my Rovian mudslinging abilities.

23. Arizona origins? That may explain it.
I once lived in Phoenix. When I visited last year, I stopped in a downtown Tempe record store. The owner and I ended up talking politics -- and he said that it was now common culture for gangs of right-wingers to roam around looking for businesses posting anything counter-cultural or left-wing. He said that if they found such material, the windows would be broken. In broad daylight. Without arrest. I was aghast.
Also, a story about the sheriff of Maricopa County -- the pink underwear and green baloney labor camp guy, Joe Arpaio (?) -- who imprisoned a vocal detractor of his for murder, albeit against all the witnesses and evidence. The man was brutalized before being exonerated and released.
I don't remember it being quite so right-wing as much as just dark and violent. But Evan Meacham was elected Governor, and cancelled the Martin Luther King Holiday, and called black children 'pickaninnies', and I did indeed vote in the recall election that ousted him -- so --

Virulent. And truth be told, quite functionally insane.

24. Just WHAT did he DO for 8,400,000.00?
Inquiring/suspicious minds want to know.
I hope they crucify this b*****d. They didn't just want to steal/win this election (like in 2000)...they wanted to be able to declare a MANDATE to justify carrying out his crimes against the American people. Heaven help them if Democrats won and had the opportunity to investigate his evil deeds. So yes...it was worth it to them to do anything to win...no matter what the cost.

25. And where is the so-called "liberal media" in ALL of these real news
stories? Nowhere to be found...too busy filling us in on the important stuff like Wacko Jacko and missing blond white women (sad though it is) and other distractions.

I noticed the other day that the Diebold-manufactured ATM machine at my bank has no problem spitting out a paper receipt, and really quickly too. What's the big deal????

28. As I recall...some of these people were actually caught in the act of
shredding and filling dumpsters w/Dem voter registrations.

Many of those who chose to register were turned away at the polls. This should be handled by each state's Atty Gen's office, and it will take a public outcry and some pretty interesting legal battles to bring this to a conclusion.

I believe the Feds can get involved, but I'm not positive. Since this firm crossed state borders to do the Ohio and other jobs. I would suppose the Feds could get into the fray. Bottom line though, the states need to take this clown to court!!!!...:grr:
