Seriously, breaking into Prime Time to announce his Supreme Court nominee? Is it really THAT important?!
I think this move could hurt him. When your credibility is teetering on the edge, it's not the time to be so transparently political. Now, people are just LOOKING for evidence that this White House does indeed put politics over the nation's interest, and here he is serving such evidence up to them on a platter.
Not to mention, every time he "speaks to the people", he hurts his ratings.
