1. Good article, thanks for posting it, illbill... |

There is no such thing as the "war on Terror". It's a sham. In Paris in the 1980's there were a lot of terrorist attacks. But one day they stopped. This gentleman from Liberation (paper for which works Florence Aubenas who was captive in Iraq for months and recently freed...) gives an idea of how terrorism can be fought:
"There will, however, come a day when a majority of Americans understand that the fight against terrorism is not a war, and that it will not be won upon some unknown field of battle. It is a long-term affair, mixing police cooperation, a respect for the basic rights of suspects (which have been trodden under foot, in Guantanamo and Baghdad, when certain prisoners, for the purposes of torture, have been passed on to "friendly" dictatorships that Washington trusts) and policy. It implies patience, resolution and courage, because we will live a long time with Islamist terrorists, even those who today think themselves well-protected."

I'm glad you have knowledge about the Liberation. Although I don't agree with the majority of what foreign newspapers claim (as they have as much propaganda as US media has), it is always good to read it...

4. The terrorism problem can only end by atrophy from the lack |
|
of motivation. Governmental military action is counter productive.

As long as there is a "war" going the executive will wield undue power. The illusion of war is the only thing the current incompetent executive has going for him, and he will continue to use it to get what he wants no mater what the cost to the American democracy.

3. It's not a war, it's a self-bleeding process that is eventually fatal. |
