Report: Plame Gave Money to Anti-Bush Group
Wednesday, July 27, 2005
By Deborah Orin

WASHINGTON — Outed CIA spy Valerie Plame last fall gave a campaign contribution to go toward an anti-Bush fund-raising concert starring Bruce Springsteen, it was revealed Tuesday night.

It's the first revelation that Plame participated in anti-Bush political activity while working for the CIA.

The $372 donation to the anti-Bush group America Coming Together (search), first reported by Time magazine's Web site, was made in Plame's married name of Valerie E. Wilson and covered two tickets.

The Federal Election Commission (search) record lists her occupation as "retired" even though she's still a CIA staffer. Under employer it says: "N.A."

A special prosecutor is probing whether Plame's CIA identity was leaked to retaliate against her husband, Joseph Wilson (search), for attacking President Bush's Iraq policy after he went on an Iraq-linked CIA mission arranged by his wife.

Wilson — who played an active role in Democrat John Kerry's (search) losing 2004 presidential campaign — said the anti-Bush concert was "great" and told Time that his wife "doesn't recall listing herself as retired."

CIA rules allow campaign contributions, but the fact that Plame gave money to the anti-Bush effort is likely to raise eyebrows.

Federal rules require a political-action committee to ask all donors to list their employers.

"You don't have to provide it, but if you do, you shouldn't provide false information on those forms — like saying you're retired if you're not," said Larry Noble of the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics (search).

America Coming Together is one of the anti-Bush activist groups bankrolled by Bush-opposing billionaire George Soros (search). He gave the group around $10 million.

Special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's probe has raised questions about whether top Bush aides such as Karl Rove (search) played a role in outing Plame. Rove has said he relayed her role in arranging her husband's CIA trip, but didn't know she was undercover.

White House officials say Rove was seeking to discredit Wilson's attacks on Bush by noting that Wilson only got picked for the CIA mission because of his wife.

A bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report found that Plame did arrange her husband's trip even though he repeatedly denied it.

1. Fox is repeating the false insinuation that Plame sent her husband to Niger - four times alone in this short piece!

2. CIA officials are free to participate in our democracy as much as anyone else. You don't see Democrats complaining about how other CIA officials contributed to Bush's campaigns.

3. Since Plame was covert, is she really expected to list her true occupation on the form? It's the same reason she would tell her friends that she was a "consultant".

4. "The fact that Plame gave money to the anti-Bush effort is likely to raise eyebrows." That's Fox for you.

The only conclusion to draw from this garbage is that Fox and the rest of the Ministry of Truth are trying their best to insinuate that Valerie Plame, a Bush-Hater (read: America-Hater), was working within the CIA as an ally of the anti-American terrorists. As part of her dark mission, she sent her husband, another America-Hater, to Niger to thwart Bush's attempt to secure evidence of Saddam's nuclear threat by reporting that the yellowcake claim was baseless. But the noble White House outsmarted the evil Wilsons by including the claim in their State of the Union Speech anyway. So Joe Wilson, Terrorist Double Agent #2, struck at Bush (read: America) from the ranks of the America-hating liberal media.

Now we have proof of their evil plan! And now we know it was Karl Rove who stood up to this diabolical terrorist plot and single-handedly saved our country! Don't you all see? Rove is the hero here!

10. Is it not funny, they never ask anyone that is on their side what their
political motives are. If you are a liberal it's bad, bad...Like what difference does it make how she voted, did that make her a bad American and should not be a CIA opperative...well that is what it is coming too.

11. It feeds perfectly into ...
... the Republican mind that someone who opposes Bush must oppose America. And why in God's Name should we have people who oppose America working in our intelligence community? That's just wrong!

The Republican brain has been well-conditioned. They truly do not perceive a difference between Bush and the United States. Therefore, if you oppose Bush's plan to privatize social security, or Heaven-forbid, his re-election, you are no different than a terrorist who wants to kill American civilians. And person who wants to kill American civilians should not be working at the CIA.

I'm sure you can probably find a lot of Republicans who gave to the same group only because they wanted to see a concert.

I specifically remember when I tried to get tickets that it did ask for your job info as it was considered a political donation.

19. oh, they got her nailed
She broke the law by not revealing she was a secret agent for the CIA when she bought those subversive Springsteen ticket.

Talk about a plot against bush! Going to a concert where people call the guy "The Boss"... is she really working for Bruce? And TWO tickets. A conspiracy!

We've lost the fight now. Sure, they purposely deceived the country into war with fake documents and discounted non-existent threats, outed an undercover agent and the agency she'd worked under the cover of that was looking into the minor, unimportant WMD issues, putting all that worked with them in peril and broke the trust in ways that can't be healed and they lie about Wilson as though he is the point.

But she bought tickets to see the Boss sing. Traitor! She and all affected must have deserved it.

29. The insanity continues
Ben Stein, the conservative, and former game show host was on the early Sunday show on CBS, and basically said the same thing. This was all an attack on the Bush administration by gutless Democrats who have nothing better to do than to attack. He said that Plame sat behind a desk for 6 years and wasn't really covert. All the usual bull%^&* you see with Republicans who want this story off the air.

30. Donations made "last fall" but they hope you didn't follow that part
The donations were made "last fall," after she had been outed by the traitors in the Bush administration. Of course, she's going to be anti-Bush now! Eyes wide open.

Fox is counting on their viewers not putting together the subtext. It's another propaganda effort to justify treasonous political payback as deserved to their unblinking legions. They're really having to twist into some exaggerated contortions to proclaim treason as justified to an audience feted on blind patriotism.

35. New RW Talking Points
I caught a few minutes of the Sean Hannity show on one of my local AM stations and he repeated this story almost verbatim. RW talking points indeed! He also lamented that Kerry outed a CIA agent and has not suffered any consequences for his devious actions. Of course, for them the whole Rove scandal is just another case of the "liberal news media" pouncing on a poor, defenseless, harmless conservative. Poor fellow. <sarcasm>
