MORMON ABORTION (MA Gov. Romney)
It’s time to dog Romney
BY ADAM REILLY

Romney hasn’t just moved toward a more conservative position on abortion — he’s moved, to a large extent, toward the Mormon position on abortion.

Consider the language. Here’s Romney in a July 26 Boston Globe op-ed:

I am prolife. I believe that abortion is the wrong choice except in cases of incest, rape, and to save the life of the mother.

And here’s the public position of the Church of Latter-day Saints (LDS), taken from a 1973 statement reproduced on the Church’s Web site (www.lds.org):

The Church opposes abortion ... except in rare cases where, in the opinion of competent medical counsel, the life or good health of the mother is seriously endangered or where the pregnancy was caused by rape and produces serious emotional trauma in the mother. Even then it should be done only after counseling with the local presiding priesthood authority and after receiving divine confirmation through prayer.

1. Local priesthood authority? I can see where Mormons
might have a "local priesthood authority" in Utah, but if this is Romney's vision for the future, where am I going to find the "local priesthood authority" in my community? If I decide it's the catholic church, are the baptists going to get mad? If it's the baptists, how will the methodists react to being second banana?

2. So...
So the Massachusetts governor is taking the Mormon position of abortion in a state, which he is supposed to represent, that has a very small Mormon population?

And why is he basing his decisions on his religion anyways? Doesn't that violate the establishment clause in the first place?

4. Romney deserves criticism for trying to have it all ways on abortion
but he doesn't mention any priests of any kind in his position. It is flatly dishonest to say his position is the same as the Mormon's in that regard.
