Ed Scultz on the recent Ohio Congressional race
08/03/2005)
I'm off today, Thursday and Friday, but I couldn't help but follow with strong interest Tuesday night the election in Ohio.

Paul Hackett lost by 4 percent of the vote in a rightie stronghold. That's close and a good sign.

Ask the tough question. Did the Democrats nationally do enough to help this guy?

I think not. Howard Dean should have been there for several days with help from the DNC, and I just don't mean cash either. Dean would have brought media attention and motivated more people to come to the polls.

Did any Senator help Hackett in this crucial state? I made a mistake. I should have taken the show to Congressional District 2 this week and made a bigger deal out of this. Just 3,500 votes short! I'm pissed but I think learned something. We are close. Hackett has the guts Democrats are looking for and the spirit it will take to win back the country. I think he should run for the Senate.

1. I did wonder why "big name" Dems weren't there to help him...Maybe some
were, and I missed it.

2. The DNC DID put 29 people there with Paul.
Paul Hackett himself said they received a lot of help from the DNC, and his campaign decided to downplay that information. That's why you haven't heard much about it.

I'm guessing here, but I think they tried to downplay a lot of national publicity because they didn't want to rev up the Pubs.

That's also the story that came out today. The RNC only started to dump $$ into Schimdt's campaign when they realized it was going to be close. Schmidt herself was claiming today that the race was close because many of the Pubs just didn't vote!

3. Ed Schultz is a lightweight
He talks a good game but his knowledge is very weak.
1. Hackett did not want "outside liberals" in his district.
2. He got both help and money from the DNC
3. Max Cleland & John Glenn showed up.

4. Ed Schultz is worse than a lightweight - he is the fox in the henhouse.
I hate him - didn't actually hate him until his really really stupid rant yesterday about the Dems. I don't care what other people say about his appeal to moderates - he repeatedly damns the Dems with false issues. The sooner he is off the air the better off the party will be. He is way to obvious at this point for us to continue to ignore him.

5. I think he can do some good ......
..... but I smell snake oil from him. He does tend to talk @ length
about issues he is very weak on.

I think he became a liberal because he saw an open market and can
make a buck or two.

10. Ed Schultz is a straight talker
Something this party needs. He's not a conspiracy nutcase like many on the left are.

What false issues does he damn the Dems with? Back up that statement.

6. I don't think Dean would have been a good thing
I think Hackett played it very smart. He took quiet help from the DNC, vocal support from the blogosphere and only brought spotless Dems to stand visibly with him (Glenn and Cleland). Don't get me wrong - I like Dean. He just wouldn't have played that well to the people we needed to swing and was a greater force from behind the scenes. Maybe having Schultz here would have been fine but Air America did a pretty good job of elevating our little CD race here in the steamy Ohio Valley from the air, as did the blogs on the internets. I'm still pumped by what we did and can not wait to engage the Repugs in '06. We're taking it back then baby! :headbang:

9. Hackett sent out a big Thank You out for help from DNC/DFA.
But WTF does he know compared to this guy?
This looks like more Dean-bashing to me.
