LA Times Commentary by Margaret Carlson on Sheehan
I DIDN'T THINK Cindy Sheehan, the mother waiting on that dusty Texas road for a chance to ask President Bush why her son died in Iraq, was having much effect.

Then I saw her being "Swift-boated" like John Kerry, whose medals and Purple Hearts were all a mistake.

Sheehan, word went out, is a flip-flopper. She'd once accepted the condolences of the president and there was an article in her local paper, which quickly found its way to reporters, to prove it. In it, Sheehan was quoted as saying that Bush wanted "freedom for the Iraqis," felt "some pain for our loss" and that he was "a man of faith." All true, and not at all at odds with what she's saying now, which is that the war is not a "noble" cause, as Bush would have it, and that no one else's child should die in it.

What that excerpt from her Vacaville paper, provided to the Drudge Report, conveniently left out was the part about the family's decision to behave in a decorous way on a solemn occasion, despite their feelings about the war

2. It's called "CLASS" something Drudge, Rush, Coulter, ...
most freepers, etc wouldn't recognize if they ran into it like a solid granite wall any more then they do the TRUTH.

Besides... even if she did change her "tune" as the light of the truth (that BushCo LIED and her son, amongst many others, have DIED for those LIES) dawned on her she'd still have more CLASS in her little pinky then any of those anti-patriot neo-con traitors and still be a heck of a lot less of a flip flopper then BushCo. Cindy is a true hero and PATRIOT.

3. it was a picky point the RW was making-yet it was effective in casting
doubt on her integrity. Sad, it it did happen.

5. I don't think most folks are buying it, tho
Too many people now know they were lied to by the Bush regime. It makes perfect sense to change your mind when the truth is revealed. RWers just look silly, making that argument. The public has moved past that. Look at the dwindling support for the war in the polls.

6. perhaps you are right but seems to me that they are upset about how
the war is being handled by BushCo--not necessarily the war--or the idea of war.

7. I think they are genuinely torn
They don't want to appear to be unsupportive of our men and women over there but they are disturbed by the increasing evidence that we were lied to in order to start the war in the first place. As the whole rationale for the war unravels they will look for a way to get out of this snake pit for good.

9. This is an excellent piece
It does a lot to lay to waste some of the "swift boating" of Mrs. Sheehan.
