It’s powerful, dangerous and can persuade people to martyr themselves … now hate is a crime, shouldn’t love be outlawed too?

WHY don’t we just get on with it and ban love in this country? Now that New Labour has all but legislated hate out of existence, we may as well go the whole hog and outlaw every uncontrollable human emotion that the government doesn’t like.
Anyone engaged in acts of condoning, supporting or glorifying love could be subjected to house arrest, face exile and charges of treason. Let’s deport the “preachers of love”, and begin consultations on whether fear, joy, hope and despair should also be proscribed. Anything which tilts a person’s emotional Richter scale beyond zero should be criminalised immediately.

We’re being told that it’s our patriotic duty to support the government’s “war on hate”. After all, banning people from feeling an emotion that’s always been part of the human condition , is clearly the only way to protect our democracy and our liberties. It’s the only way to preserve our Britishness. If you can’t help feeling bad emotions, like hate , you will have to go to jail – for the new crime of “justifying or glorifying terrorism” – or pack your bags, get out of Britain and head for somewhere in the Middle East.

Let the haters hate. Don’t let them hand an opportunity to this government to take away your right to think and feel and say what you believe in, even if your opinions are repellent. Our current crop of haters want a caliphate in this country where freedom of thought and expression would be punished by death. Pay these nasty little men the ultimate insult by allowing them to be free to hate in a way that, given half the chance, they would forbid you from doing, and show them that the kind of country they want will never come to Britain – no matter how much Tony Blair tries.
