Is Bush Out of Control?
By DOUG THOMPSON
Aug 15, 2005, 05:46

Buy beleaguered, overworked White House aides enough drinks and they tell a sordid tale of an administration under siege, beset by bitter staff infighting and led by a man whose mood swings suggest paranoia bordering on schizophrenia.

They describe a President whose public persona masks an angry, obscenity-spouting man who berates staff, unleashes tirades against those who disagree with him and ends meetings in the Oval Office with “get out of here!”

In fact, George W. Bush’s mood swings have become so drastic that White House emails often contain “weather reports” to warn of the President’s demeanor. “Calm seas” means Bush is calm while “tornado alert” is a warning that he is pissed at the world.

13. How reliable is CapitolHillBlue?
Not that I would not be shocked at all to learn that Bush has mega-mood swings...
Does CapHillBlue have a good track record?

32. They gave a similar report a couple of years ago
and I asked the same question. The only problem with their info is that no one else seems to pick up on it and report it. Other than that little problem with our esteemed free press...

Shrinks like the author of Bush on the Couch validate Capitol Hill Blue's reports, so I'm inclined to give CHB credit.

As for lay-people observing Bush from afar and weighing in on alcoholism and drug addiction: DU has at times had some very lively threads on those subjects, with a number of DU 12-steppers making very informed observations.

Basically, the US is screwed. We're going to go to war with Iran, and probably Korea when Bush gets around to it, picking off the "Axis of Evil" one by one. God only knows what will stop Bush and his pals now.

Except...the rats do seem to be leaving his ship, scurrying away in anticipation of next year's elections. We might get lucky yet.

This article appeared in capitol hill blue in June 2004:

Bush's Erratic Behaviour Worries White House Aides

Doug Thompson
President George W. Bush’s increasingly erratic behaviour and wide mood swings has the halls of the West Wing buzzing lately as aides privately express growing concern over their leader’s state of mind.

***

Worried White House aides paint a portrait of a man on the edge, increasingly wary of those who disagree with him and paranoid of a public that no longer trusts his policies in Iraq or at home.

***

In interviews with a number of White House staffers who were willing to talk off the record, a picture of an administration under siege has emerged, led by a man who declares his decisions to be “God’s will” and then tells aides to “fuck over” anyone they consider to be an opponent of the administration.

like you, I do not find this hard to believe, but a long time ago I noted CHB's tendency to cite their articles and to qoute themselves.

2. Knowing that he's utterly blown any hope for a positive legacy,
and that the worst is yet to come, Bush's infantile, spoiled-rich-kid persona is increasingly asserting itself. Must be a bitch when Daddy's connections can no longer save you from yourself.

"A year ago, this web site discovered the White House physician prescribed anti-depressants for Bush. The news came after revelations that the President’s wide mood swings led some administration staffers to doubt his sanity."

taught him since childhood by the wicked bitch Barbara.

not likely he'll crack in public.

Lots of rumors from those in the older Bush family circle here in Houston about the private Babs. She's a full fledged, broom riding witch.

40. No, he had it long before then. He just didn't admit it until he left.
Even those of us who weren't very familiar with Alzheimer's had noticed that he was pretty "disconnected". Now that I'm much more familiar with Alzheimer's, I realize how obvious it must have been to those who know Alzheimer's.

23. Bush has always had a shaky grip on his temper.
I assume it's one main reason that he doesn't interact much with the people or the press. Aside from just plain sociopathic arrogance, of course.

The thought of him "losing it" is rather disturbing, considering the authority that comes with his position.

25. temper,temper
I suspect this assessment is correct and that it is one reason his handlers keep him isolated and on script.
Then there's this:"Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power."
— Abraham Lincoln
By my measure the chimperor has failed the test and has continually throughout his privileged life.

30. yes -- he's 13th cousin to the Queen, I think ...
Which would have given Her Majesty a perfect retort to the (drunken) question he originally asked her back in the late 1980s, at a White House state dinner during his father's administration: "I'm the black sheep of the family. Who's your black sheep?"

The Queen could turn to him now and say, "We've checked. It's still you."

38. Yes he did but the circumstances were similar, when things for Bush are
not going well, he lashes out. I imagine his dickheadedness depends on external circumstances of things not going his way.

Both instances come down to, not besting dad, either by winning reelection or having his successful little war which translates to him getting his way on policy.
