Willing to Be Lied To
" Presidents have led the United States into wars most often on bad information or bad faith, yet Americans always seem willing to be taken in again.
By William Marvel

......'More often than not, events prove that the opponents of intervention were absolutely right, but that yields small comfort in a nation of such short memories. For all the revelations of previous presidential duplicity and stupidity, most Americans seem ready to believe their president during even the most artificial crises. That offers irresistible opportunities for incompetent or unscrupulous incumbents to regain public support, and vastly improves the chances for armed conflict at every diplomatic hurdle.'< snip >

2. Some Americans Are Willing to Be Deceived
"there's a sucker born every minute" remember.

What's awful now are the ones shouting, "We don't care" at Cindy Sheehan. Or smashing the war memorial crosses. Like Hitler's Brownshirts. That's something we don't have all the time.
