Big deficit will hurt Boomers

About 77 million Baby Boomers will start retiring five years from now. That should scare the hell out of you.

Why? Because our footloose friends at the White House admitted Tuesday that the federal budget deficit will soar this year to a record $455 billion and then climb even higher in 2004.

Those are conservative estimates, mind you. They don't reflect future costs related to the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, or the full impact of the Bush administration's tax cuts becoming permanent, as is expected to be the case.

Nevertheless, the White House said it will pare back the deficit to $226 billion by 2008, although an administration spokesman didn't elaborate for reporters on how this would happen.

"That looks to me like wishful thinking," commented Robert Bixby, executive director of the Concord Coalition, a nonpartisan organization in Arlington, Va. , advocating fiscal responsibility. "The administration's reduction path for the deficit doesn't seem realistic."

BTW, they have a poll on how to fix. Leading answer at time I posted at 69% was to bring back Bill Clinton. Take that AWOL!

2. It's not going to hurt the Baby Boomers

They'll still get their benefits. Do you think they'll allow that not to happen?

The people who are screwed by this deficit are those generations, like myself, that come after the baby boomers who will have to pay for those benefits.

Baby Boomers have a generational responsibility to secure their own retirement. But with the selection of GW, they have avoided this responsibility.

I'm pretty furious. I'm even more furious on behalf of my two year old son who future is piggy bank the Bush administration thinks it is entitled to rob for its own consumption.

I am on Social Security disability right now. My wife works at a KFC for slightly over minumum wage. I have 2 kids. None of them get any benefits due to a reform passed under Poopy Pants Reagan. When you add my Social Security to my wife's wages, it puts us in the bracket that my Social Security is taxed. Medicare? please, it doesn't pay a damn nickel for the prescriptions I need for my arthritis. The GOP promises aid, but it ain't coming until 2006. Thanks for nothing you worthless Nazis!

I fully expect the plug to be pulled on Social Security if President Asshole and the Nazi Party get re-elected. People forget that Social Security pays disability and survivor benefits too. Do you think investing for 40 years in the stock market is gonna happen to you if you get disabled or if you die and leave a widow with children. If you beleive in that bullshit, you live in a Ayn (as in MINE) Rand Lasseiz fairyland!

The real reason they are running these obscene deficits is because they want the entire government privitized. Make no mistake about it, Grover Norquist's wet dream is coming true. He has repeatedly said the happiest day of his life will be when the Nazi Party terminates Medicare and Social Security. I hope that son of a bitch has a stroke and winds up in a wheelchair begging for dimes!
