German Politician: Bush Should Be "Shot"



A German conservative politician on Thursday drew calls for his resignation by saying US President George W. Bush should be "shot" for his handling of Hurricane

Katrina. Andreas Renner, the state minister for social affairs in Baden-Wuerttemberg state, told reporters on Wednesday: "He deserves to be shot," according to a local newspaper published Thursday. It sparked outrage in Germany, where several politicians campaigning for national elections on September 18 have criticized Washington's response to the catastrophe, but none have gone so far. The state chapter of Social Democrats called for Renner's resignation while his own Christian Democrats, who are expected to win the election, also criticized his remarks. Renner said Thursday that he had meant Bush should be "shot down in the political sense. I withdraw what I said with regret." It is not the first time that a politician has landed in hot water over a remark against Bush in the throes of a national election campaign. In 2002, the Social Democrats' federal justice minister Herta Daeubler-Gmelin was forced to quit after she compared the US pesident to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. Schröder sacked her days before the election.

I'd rather say SOME and the most important ones were whether hung nor even tried. After F.D.R. died, the denacification of Germany was over and even before, it was sabotaged. There was only a minority of liberals within the OSS, who really supported F.D.R. and the denacification.
The real Nuremberg Trial did never happen, although even F.D.R. considered these to be more important than the ones that did happen.
If all the war criminals in Germany would have been hung and brought to justice, Bush wouldn't be the president of the U.S.A.

At least history told me so...

Renner should not have to resign!! What the hell, thats total bullshit. This is what I mean, the same thing would happen if someone spoke out about Hitler. But, instead of shooting, hanging or torturering people that force them to resign their positions. Just as Herta was FORCED out because of the same commit I just made...

Renner said Bush "gehört abgeschossen". Guess what my German-English dictionary tells me?

It means: Bush "ought to be ousted".

Now the word "abgeschossen" literally means "shot off". But imagine Renner had said: Bush "gehört gefeuert", which literally translates as "ought to be fired"? And some idiot came along and said: Renner wants Bush to be burnt at the stake?

Whoever does the misinterpreting inside Germany must be trying to do a little election campaign. You really have to be completely brain dead or to not know any German to misunderstand what he said. And it's not even some dialect he used, but the stuff you find in the dictionary!

But nevertheless it's interesting to see that a member of the CDU, who usually suck up to Bush, would like to see his impeachment. It's nice, actually.
